Jamie Oliver has already been tipped as the new Delia Smith, only this guy has a heck of a lot more style. He isnt one of these frilly kinds of chefs! He enjoys cooking and presenting good food, and you dont have to have a degree in cookery to follow his recipes, just a bit of time and patience, oh and the ingredients of course!
The thing I really like about this book, is that the recipes are not too difficult, and you dont have to go out and find some wierd ingredients you have never heard of.At the beggining of this book Jamie suggests a few things you might want to have in your store cupboard before you start cooking, these are:
oils: extra virgin olive,olive,sunflower vinegars: red wine,white wine,balsamic,rice wine mustards: dijon,wholegrain,english salt: maldon sea,table,cooking sugar: brown,white,icing flour: plain,s.f,strong pasta,tipo'oo',corn baking powder,bicarb soda semolina,couscous dried pasta: spaghetti,linguine,tagliatelli,penne pulses: borlotti,cannellini,butter beans rice: long grain pilaf,basmati,risotto anchovies in olive oil or salt capers: salted olives: black,green soy sauce,fish sauce,oyster sauce tinned whole tomatoes dried mushrooms chocolate,cocoa powder
Of course you need fresh and dairy produce but these are some of your basic needs.
After an introduction about this book, the recipes are spread into different sections which are:
1. breakfasts 2. tapas,munchies and snacks 3. simple salads and dressings 4. soups and broths 5. pasta and risotto 6. fish and shellfish 7. meat poultry and game 8. vegetables 9. bread 10. desserts 11. bevvies 12. stocks sauces, bits and bobs
There are a wide range of different meals etc to try ranging from normal everday foods for families, to something extra special to serve for those times when you want to impress! I particuly liked the section which had several different sauces in, as they can always turn a regular dish into something spectacular!
I have just bought this book for my father who has recently become a bachelor, and wont use traditional cookery books, but has found this book to be a god send,as it comes across in such a new fresh way that cooking dosent seem to be a chore anymore only a pleasure!!To look at some more recipes you could log on too www.jamieoliver.com

Advantages: Fantastic book for the progressive home cook, inovotive and versitile. Disadvantages: Not enough pictures, some recipies with no picure to aspire to.
