Have you ever thought of just grabbing in your fridge and on your shelves and mixing together the wildest ingredients? And in the end youīll end up with a superb menue every mother in law would be pleased.
This is my impression of Jamie Olivier. Of course he uses only the best ingredients like extra virgin olive, olive or sunflower oil or dijon mustards and tree different versions of sugar and salt.
But the combination of things is what makes his recipies extraordinary and exciting.
Never realized all the things you can eat with olives, capers or anchovies (all from pasta to pizza to meat and vegetaran). Or where you can put all those interesting flavors of soy sauce, fish sauce or oyster sauce.
I really canīt tell whatīs my favourite recipe as I havenīt tried all of them yet. But what Iīve tried was always superb.
Best in it is the combination of sweet, salty and sour or of meat/vegetable with fruit or sweet ingredients.
And I like the way heīs chopping up things: since being a student I always cut my herbs with scisors and thought I was strange....he even only rips them apart without thinking of a noble herb knife...
all in all: a really good book for experimental cooking with the 99% gurarantee that it will taste fabulous, and the 1% is the strange thing you are just not used to.
Go for it, itīs also worth the money and Iīve even seen it cheap second-hand on ebay already.

Advantages: Fantastic book for the progressive home cook, inovotive and versitile. Disadvantages: Not enough pictures, some recipies with no picure to aspire to.
Advantages: Wide range of recipes from everyday to special occasions, clear layout and photos Disadvantages: Not a cook book for those who aren't fans of Jamie!

Advantages: Well designed, modern, appeals to men and women Disadvantages: I wonder if I will pick it up in five years time and think "he looks a prat on that chicken chaser of a scooter".
