Advantages: Well laid out, lots of useful info and maps, good hotel and restaurant lists Disadvantages: More info on attractions would be helpful - price, opening hours, transport
...This is a very informative, well laid out guide covering all areas of California, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. The book is split up into the different areas of California - Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, NationalParks and has a good intorductory section on useful basic information. For all areas, the book gives a good list of accomodation and places to eat and gives a break down of neighbourhoods and things to visit there. Useful maps are provided for each area also.
The only disadvantage is that although it mentions attractions/museums etc, it does not give a lot of information such as price, public transport to them, opening hours. The book was published in late 2005, so any prices mentioned may be out of date....

...This is a compact (5 by 3 inch) 184 page guide to these Californian NationalParks. This size makes it ideal to include in the camera bag so it was not forgotten on the days we visited the parks.

Fourteen maps, some in great detail e.g. Yosemite Valley floor roads, provide more than sufficient detail.
I read the book on the plane over to California and reckon that the information allowed me to plan the optimum locations to visit and see for the one day we had in Sequoia and two days in Yosemite. The maps give the appearance that travel time will be fairly short as there is not much distance between places whereas the reality is that the roads are windy, narrow and busy!
The information provided in the text...

...Simply breathtaking views nowmatter which corner of the park you are standing in. It has everything and much, much more for everyone to enjoy.
You can find the YosemiteNationalPark in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of central California. It has been created by earthquakes, glaciers and other forces of nature over millions of years. You can still see the affects, through the waterfalls, steep mountains, lakes and their entire landscape of the park. This is place for all especially those who love exploring mountains. If climbing Mount Everest has been a dream to you, then put it on hold. Go here first. You will you get to climb on top of mountains, which are achievable even for those who have no experience of it. Believe me, it will leave you gasping for breath but it is well worth just for the spectacular views. Take a decent camera...
