The Sanctuary is a women only spa which is an oasis of peace and tranquility located in the heart of London's Covent Garden. For those of us unable to get there, Boots sell a range of Santuary products.
The 100ml tube of Warming Charcoal Detox mask costs £7.50, but they also do a sachet for 49p if you just want to sample it.
This mask is intended to cleanse and pamper your skin. "The activated charcoal and natural clay cleanse and detoxify, removing impurities and absorbing toxins, which soothing agents protest the skin and Glycerine helps soften and prevent moisture loss" says the packaging.
The directions for use suggest applying a generous layer to a thoroughly cleansed and wet face, avoiding the eye area. Leave it on for five minutes, and then remove with tepid water or a damp sponge.
Opening the tube, my first reaction was "yuk"! It's a dark grey squodgy (if there is such a word!) substance, which smells surprisingly pleasant.
I applied it to my wet face and "wow!" it really does heat up when it touches your skin. It was warm, but not too hot and it felt really nice. After five minutes it hadn't changed consistency at all. It didn't dry up and crack, but I could no longer feel the warmth. It washed away very easily.
Afterwards my skin felt very smooth, if a little dry. I did feel as though my face was thoroughly cleansed. I loved the warm feeling when it first went on!
It is recommended for use once or twice a week, for normal to oily skin. I would say my skin is normal, but I think twice a week would be too much for it, maybe only once a fortnight would be enough.
Still, that will make the tube last longer!
