This is not the best Sandman book. Neither is a book that is easy to understand if your new to the series.
Having said that this is a very very good book. The problem with the Sandamn series is that while some are better than others they are all among the best grahic novels written.
A game of You sees the return of Barbie (a character first encountered in a Dolls House). In it we see Barbies journey into her dream land and her quest to stop the Cookoo. Ultimatly she fails, but as with all these books this failure is a kind of sucess.
As well as Barbie Sandman readers will recognise Foxglove and her partner, Thessaly and the usually band of Matthew, Lucien etc.
The style of drawing compliments the story perfectly. It switches from the pretty nature of Barbies dream to a hard style for reality. The plot is involving and the death of Wanda near the end is one of the most moving scenes in the entire series.
The problems with this story arise mainly from the fact that i personally prefere the less realistic Sandman stories.
However A Game Of You is well written, well drawn and a truly involving read. Read a Dolls House first to get the background and then read this. As always with Gaiman its a must read.
