Dennis Wheatley lived from 1897-1977. Invalided out of World War I he turned to the family wine business but when that hit hard times he began trying his hand at writing novels. Despite negative reviews about his first publication, ‘Three Inquisitive People’, he soldiered on to his second novel, ‘The Forbidden Territory’.
