    This book continues the story of the war against the Arachnid started in the previous book "In Death Ground". At the start of this book there is a sort of stalemate in place after many years of a hard fought war. Each side has inflicted huge losses on the other. The Arachnids still hold some of planets of Humanity and of the Orion Khanate. But Naval Intelligence has been very busy.
