Review of "The Simpsons Game (Nintendo DS)"
Thanks for all your rates :) On and off for a while...so busy at work!
I have been a big fan of the Simpsons for a long time and even though I see many people thought this game was really bad, I actually quite enjoyed it! I thought this game was great for just casually playing with ease and although it was over quickly, I did replay it a few times and attempted at getting 100% within the game.
The age rating is 12 plus for this game, which is fair, as many of The Simspons fans tend to be around this age. It isn't too rude or violent for anyone worried about these things, and it is pretty similar to the humour and violence included in a regular Simpsons episode.
The Simpsons game is based on a plot where the characters of Springfield go through many different things, such as questioning their existence, going to a medeival world, saving the world using Buddhas powers, saving their video gamed selves and meeting God. The game has many cutscenes and you can't skip them if you just feel like playing straight away, which can be annoying if you just want to start straight away. Although, they are funny the first time you play the game, if you replay the plot, you'll find they just start to get annoying (but you can also look forward to the loveable Bender from the Simpsons creator other television show - Futurama!)
You have the ability to play as many characters within this story, as the different levels are centered around particular characters, Usually you play in a pair, while swapping around the role of main character throughout the level. This adds great variety to the game, as you get to use many different powers during the game, and have to think about how to complete the game using these powers.
The gameplay itself is not to challenging but not too easy, so any level of gamer will be able to enjoy it. It also includes fun little minigames throughout to make use of its touchscreen, my personal favourite is when you must defeat the evil dolphins (they were included in a Simpsons Halloween episode ages ago).
Another funny little sidegame is the loveable, Pet Homer. Where Homer Simpson is basically treated as your pet and you can make him eat or do various things. The great thing about this, is that all through the game you could unlock features for him, so you kept playing the game to get all of them and see everything Pet Homer could do. Some of these things include feeding him doughnuts or slapping him awake with various objects available.
The sound throughout reminds me of the other Simpsons games and episodes I have played or watched through, as it has that cartoony backing track that all of them have. I didn't find it to be annoying which was a great bonus and it did fit in quite well with the gameplay.
