The Simpsons kitchen roll

Design
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The design is quite appealing, especially to lovers of The Simpsons! The kitchen roll itself is white and there are coloured pictures of the Simpson’s characters, randomly spaced across the sheet.
There is a picture of Lisa Simpson playing her saxophone with notes coming out.
There is a picture of Bart Simpson pulling a strange face surrounded by muddy hand prints! And there is a picture of Homer Simpson surrounded by three donuts and he is pulling his ‘mmmm donuts’ face!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The packaging.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The kitchen roll comes in packs of two and is wrapped in a clear cellophane wrapper which has the simpsons logo on the front and a brightly coloured picture of Homer sitting on a barrel of nuclear waste and eating a donut.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The rolls
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The kitchen towels are 2ply and there is an average of 55 sheets per roll. Each sheet is 248 x 230 mm. The total area of a roll is 6.3 sq metres.

The feel
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Each sheet of this kitchen roll feels quite thin and pretty rough in texture! it certainly isnt one you want to use on your skin!

Absorbency test
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

You know how on television you often get someone pouring colour liquid onto the tissue (whether its toilet tissue, kitchen roll or whatever else!) Well I decided that it would be fun (and informative to you folks!) to do a similar test of my own in order to give a more thorough review of this kitchen roll
I compared the absorbency to that of my usual kitchen roll. I prepared a coloured solution in a jug, I decided to use blackcurrant juice as it was the most colourful liquid I could make! I then put a piece of the my usual kitchen roll in a glass tumbler and put a piece of The Simsons kitchen roll in an identical glass tumbler. I then used a small syringe to measure out 14ml of the liquid, which I then injected onto the piece of kitchen roll to see how much it could absorb.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Absorbency test results
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

My usual kitchen roll easily absorbed the 14ml of solution and probably could have comfortable held another 2ml.
The Simpsons kitchen roll did not absorb all of the liquid and probably would only have been able to hold 12ml.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Evaluation of the absorbency test
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I was not overly supprised that the simpsons kitchen roll held less as it did not feel overly absorbent! It clearly isn’t as absorbent as other available kitchen roll but it still did absorb 12ml, which I suppose is pretty good!

Price
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
We brought this kitchen roll because it was on special offer in Tesco. We got two packs of two for the price of one but the normal price for a pack of two rolls is £1.59.

Durability Test
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Now after doing my own little absorbency test I decided that it was only fair that I did a durability test, similar to those done by the ‘bounty’ advertisers on television!
I decided that the best way to conduct this experiment was to make a mess first! So I mixed up two separate lots of 14ml of water, 5g of coffee, 5g of sugar and 5g of breadcrumbs. I was satisfied when dispensed onto the worktop this would provide a reasonable challenge! I tipped the first mixture onto the clean worktop (by now I had received a fair few strange looks from family members!) and took one sheet of my normal kitchen roll. I wiped it across the worktop so that it absorbed the liquid and scraped the solids into a pile. I recorded the results (bad memory you see!), cleaned the worktop and did the same experiment with the Simpsons kitchen roll.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Results of the durability test
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

My usual kitchen roll stayed intact during the wiping process where as the Simpsons kitchen roll tore, and fell apart quite easily.

Evaluation of the durability test
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I wasn’t surprised that the Simpson’s kitchen roll performed so badly as when pulling a piece of the roll it often tears which shows it isn’t too strong. Unfortunately it isn’t really much good for wiping a worktop down unless you use at least two pieces together.

Overall
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Clearly the Simpsons kitchen roll isn’t as durable or absorbent as many others but I suppose that what you are really paying for is the novelty of having Simpsons characters on your kitchen roll!! If this is in a special offer and you have kids who like the Simpsons then it is a fun one to buy but otherwise I wouldn’t bother! The two packs for the price of one offer is currently still running in tesco.

Thanks for reading,
Hope you enjoyed the tests!

Em x
