reinventing the franchise on consoles. This all new game is not for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and, as you might guess from the name, involves you being shipwrecked on a desert island. The concept is basically the same as Konamis Stranded Kids/Lost in Blue series although you start off completely alone with each of the different sims you create washed up on a different part of the island. Obviously your first task is to find something to eat and drink and a place to sleep, with the initial parts of the game recalling the early episodes of Lost (except without the smoke monster).Soon enough youre fashioning fish harpooning spears out of bits of bamboo, planting edible plants, weaving your own clothes and making giant tree houses and huts that would shame the average holiday camp. Most importantly you can train your very own monkey butlers to perform your every menial task for you (up to a point). Soon enough your fellow strandees turn up and the games more traditional social elements come into play as it becomes less Lost and more Survivor. Once youre living in some degree of comfort you can then venture out and explore the island and try and find a way back to civilisation (or stay where you are the game leaves it up to you). In fact its probably the most interesting thing to happen to The Sims in years.Harrison Dent

When you start a new game you must firstly create your crew that was onboard the ship with you when it crashed. You can have just the one Sim or up to, I believe, six. I really enjoy Sim type games so when I was browsing Play.com and saw there was a new one I thought I'd treat myself.
In this game you have been washed up on an uncharted island and you Sim or Sims must craft and build items to survive and unravel the Islands mysteries.
When you start a new game you must firstly create your crew that was onboard the ship with you when it crashed. You can have just the one Sim or up to, I believe, six. You then create your Sim, like in other games, by giving them a job, dressing them, choosing their personality and name. I started with just two Sims as I was worried about controlling too many at once and this has worked out well for me, but you may want to have more.
Once you have created your crew you then pick one Sim to start with and it gives you a quick picture show showing your crew enjoying themselves on the boat and then it capsizing. You then wake up on a beach and start to control your chosen Sim. At this point you only have the one Sim and have to find the rest of them on other beaches or islands.
When you first wash up it offers you a quick tutorial so you can get to grips with what you have to do. You also "find" a book which when selected shows you your goals, and the more goals you achieve the more things you unlock. When you travel to other areas you find more books which give you more goals. The goals. for example, can be cook a fish, befriend a chimp, find the second beach and some are easy to achieve and others much harder.
At first with all these games it seems a bit fiddly remembering which button to click to access what area, but I reckon within 15 minutes I had it cracked, so it can't be that hard! By pressing the start button you can access your goals - which shows what you need to do. Your inventory - this shows you everything you have collected, like food, tools and resources. Your plans - this is important because it shows what you can build and what resources you need to build things, for example to build a hut you may need 50 pieces of wood and 20 vines, so you have to go and collect these things in order to do this. The more goals you complete the more options open up to you. You can also access the Island map which is very useful, as once you have unlocked islands you can travel to another island just by clicking on that map.
You travel around the island exploring it and collecting resources to build objects. The more goals you complete the more you unlock and can travel to other islands and parts of islands.
It can get bit frustrating at times, like when you need to build a canoe and need 50 bits of soft wood so it takes you a while to collect this, as only so many trees, and you need the wood for other things to complete other tasks.
The Sims are quite good, and the clothes get scruffier and fall apart and their hair gets longer. You can make new clothes with items you collect or just leave them looking scraggy. They are easy to control and the load time isn't too long between screens.
The Sims also have needs/emotions which have to be met, if you are familiar with Sim games then you will have come across these. To keep your Sim happy and doing what you request you need to keep all the emotions up and green. The emotions are Socialising, cleanliness, food, tiredness, bladder, fun, comfort and environment.
As I write this though I reckon I am about ¾ of the way through the game and am now completely stuck. I have goals I can't complete and areas of the third island I cannot travel to, and this is really getting on my nerves! I feel I may have to search the Internet for some hints but I don't like doing this.
Overall this is a good game but can be frustrating at times (like now!) but I will carry on as I do like to complete a game. If you enjoyed Sims in the city then you will probably like this too.
I bought the game for £17.99 on Play.com. It is the PS2 version but I believe is available for PSP also. It requires an 8mg memory card for saving.
Advantages: addictive thats for sure Disadvantages: Not multiplayer
MY OPIONION ON THE GAME
I bought this game in 2008 after my little sister had recieved it for her birthday. I was watching her play it then i thought how much it looked like a good game to play so i shopped around for this game (ebay and amazon) Amazon being the cheapest so i bought the game, recieved it in the post a couple of days later and played it for endless nights on end. The sounds on this game are excellent they are so realistic and life ... ...like you are there. The graphics are good on this game and its sertainly value for money as once you have bought this game you wont put it away until you have completed it which takes forever.
THE GAME ITSELF
You put the disc in the ps2 and away you go. You set up your game characters i chose 6 as i thought they will help me get more neccessaties that i need, but i only played with one character the whole time just keeping an eye on the others. ...

Advantages: Great game, Very Addictive! (Good for Any Sims 2 Fan) Disadvantages: Hard at points and tricky keeping your moods up!
...many ages I hardly think the 12+ rating is totally applicable. The game can become highly addictive with its many features an functions it allows you to be free to do as you wish instead of having set goals and having to follow them precisely, instead you can complete other tasks you may want to do like building a house or should I say hut.
It makes a good simulation probably one of th best uses of the Sims 2. The Idea of the game is that you have ... ...mates is also one of the main tasks. When you were washed up so were your friends but at different places on the island and your job's to find them all. The friends will be the ones you created at the start of the game.
Once completed the game or completed everything you need to do you can choose either to stay on the island and make a paradise or leave the island after making a boat in which case the game ends and in my opinion thats the worst ...
