I received the Sims 2 as a Christmas present last year, I had been looking forward to checking out the sequel after previously playing the Sims 1 pc version. I was going to have the new Sims 2 on pc, but found out that my computer was not to date and would not be able to play the game. I received the Sims 2 as a Christmas present last year, I had been looking forward to checking out the sequel after previously playing the Sims 1 pc version. I was going to have the new Sims 2 on pc, but found out that my computer was not to date and would not be able to play the game. So I decided to have the play station 2 version in the hope that it would be just as fun as i had heard the pc version was. And this is what I found out: -
If you have never played this game before, basically you are controlling a 'sim' through their 'life'. There is no real objective to this game, but I suppose when you play, the objective is to try and be a successful sim!
Firstly you select to either play in the story mode or free play. Then you need to choose where you would like to live! You can either evict a family from a previous house or build a house of your custom later on.
~~~~Making a sim~~~~
So now you have a house, you now need a sim! In free play you can make a whole family, but in story mode, just the one sim is needed. Firstly you need to select the gender of your sim. When you create the sim, in the background you will be bale to see your Sims 'grandparents' and 'parents'. A sim will be automatically generated from these Sims generically. Note that you cannot change your Sims... -Gender -Skin tone -Body shape -Head shape ...once you have generated the sim and pressed continue.
~~~~Customising your sim~~~~
Now for the FUN part!!! Personally, one of my favourite parts! Customising your Sims fashion. If you have played the sims 1 on pc, you will notice that this part of the game has been improved a lot.
You can select the headfirst. Here you can choose various hairstyles, colour and lengths. Also you can decide how much make-up you wish your sim to wear and whether you want them to wear glasses.
The next part is tops- here you can combine T-shirt, shirts and jackets: Layering and making new styles is great fun! You can change the sleeve length, collars and colours of the tops.
Thirdly is the bottom half. Here you can choose from loads of trousers and skirts. But you can also decide what length you would like them. - Would you like your trousers turned up, Capri-length or Short shorts?!? Then you can go on to pick your perfect shoes for your outfit.
Finally- it's accessorize time! You can choose from many belts, jewellery and tattoos to wrap up your outfit. Also on here you can change the colours of accessorise.
-You can return to change your outfit anytime in the game by using dressers and wardrobes. And you will never get bored as there are over 10,000 fashion styles!
Next you need to determine your Sims aspiration. This can be romance, wealth, knowledge, popularity or creativity. Then you need to adjust your Sims personality (by star signs). Finally you need to name your sim.
~~~~Building your dream home! ~~~~
Now you are ready to begin! If you choose to build your own house (FREEPLAY MODE ONLY), this is the time to build it! Building is the one thing i find quite difficult, as I am not too great at controlling the ps2 toggle stick. You will be able to build the walls, add wallpaper, install flooring and do the usual things which usually take place when building a house, but in about 10 minutes!
Next you need furniture. You can choose from chairs, plumbing, kitchen appliances, fun things, lighting, decorations, skilful objects and many other different types of furniture. (Some items are locked-see below in wants and fears)
Note that building materials and furniture costs, this is where the simoleons get involved.
~~~~Simoleons~~~~
Basically, this is just money- but your Sims money. You can earn this money by getting your sim a job and various other things such as answering the phone to a sim telling you "Congratulations, you have won 500 simoleons!" You can even earn simoleons for catching a burglar!
~~~~Needs and moods~~~~
You will notice a mood meter on the left side of the screen. This is basically to tell you what mood your sim is in! In order to make your Sims mood better, you need to keep their needs up. The needs consist of: -
Social- keep this up by making sure your sim socialises with others
Bladder- keep this up by making sure your sim goes to the toilet regularly. Eating and sleeping increases the Sims need for the toilet. If this is not kept up, the sim is likely to have an accident, which also causes their hygiene level to decline
Hygiene- keep this up by making sure your sim has regular showers or baths
Hunger- keep this up by making your sim eat food
Fun- keep this up by making sure your sim is kept entertained with the various fun-designed objects
Energy- keep this up by making sure your sim sleeps
Comfort- keep this up by letting your sim lounge on a sofa or going to bed
Room- a well designed, bright room will keep this bar up
If your sims mood is up, promotion in their job is more likely then if they are grumpy.
~~~~Wants and fears, skills and the rest...~~~
The wants and fears section is new to the old Sims. When you designed your sim you choose his or hers aspiration, this influences their wants and fears. On the left of the screen is a bar that you can see there wants and fears. You have to complete their wants in order to unlock new objects, when enough points have been earned through doing this. The fears should not be accomplished! When you complete a platinum want a new location is unlocked. But if your sim is having problems with their wants, then get them to phone a therapist.
You have to acquire new skills in various things to get your sim to advance in their career. You can get a career simply by reading the newspaper for a job or searching on the computer. A car comes to collect you when it is time for work!
~~~~My opinion and conclusion...~~~~In my opinion i find this game great! I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the Sims games and also anyone over 12!! I think it is a lot harder to control then the pc version but it has a lot more features then on the first version such as.....
Weather-it now rains!
Food creation- you can now make your own food from recipes or your imagination
Death- if your sim dies, a simple 'return to life' ticket will keep you going or a fun game with the grim reaper will bring you back to life again!
Loads more locations to visit, fashions and objects!
The main downer is that the sims don`t have children!!! On the pc sims 2, i found out that the sims go through the whole life cycle, which sounds fun. Also the sound sometimes becomes a little delayed, although the graphics are very good.The game usually costs around £20 from any shop that sells games really...So, why not give it a try today and find out a new way to play with life!
Advantages: Very playable, live a lifestyle you only dream of Disadvantages: Very time consuming if you let it, runs slowly on my laptop
...read my previous review on The Sims you will see that the way I play the game hasn't really changed much.
I still base my Sims on myself & my partner, it took me some time to get the features right so we look quite alike. The graphics are much improved so they look more realistic. Some of the people I've spoken to about The Sims (2) have asked "What's the point?" Compared to other games, the "point" isn't as clearly defined. You're not in a race ... ...solving a mystery. The aim of the game is to control your Sim character through their life; buy & furnish a house, get a job, fall in love, have a family etc. Playing the game.
Your start by creating or selecting your Sim or family. As mentioned prevoiusly, I create myself and my fiancé. Your Sim has different needs to be met : hunger, comfort, hygiene, bladder, energy, fun, social and room. Your Sim is happiest when all the bars ...
Advantages: Very long game, quite realistic in the way of needs. Disadvantages: No children, no aging.
...ago, and I was hooked the minute I picked up the controller. In my opinion it is definitely one of the greatest Sim games (Sims 2 PC has to be the best, but PS2 is a close second), and maybe one of my favourite games ever. I found controlling the sims movements rather than just clicking somewhere and them moving a great improvement, it provides the player with alot more freedom and interaction. In story mode, the game is very long and challenging, ... ...The more tasks you complete, the more you get rewarded. .Building your Sim. When I created my first sim, I was quite overwhelmed by the variety of different things to choose from. I ended up looking through the different clothes for at least half an hour, trying to decide what suited my sim best. There are so many vests, t-shirts, jumpers, jackets, shorts, jeans and trousers to choose from. You can also decide how you want your sim to wear the clothing ...
Advantages: Much more customisation of your character and your world Disadvantages: Single floor houses, no children
Welcome back to the world of the Sims!
For those who aren't addicts like me, a quick intro...
The Sims is a God game where you create your playing character(s) from hair colour down to trainer colour, then insert them into a neighbourhood where you are set free to do whatever your heart desires. You may wish to be a social butterfly, you may wish to be a "slacker", you may wish to have a massive brood of children.
You build your home (or move ... ...etc) you will be promoted.
The console versions does differ from the PC version, but this can be a good thing, I own every Sim game, PC and PS2, and although that sounds bad, it's not, the games aren't identical, each version has it's own identity.
At face value, the game can let you down a little. You expect the gene splice that the PC version offers, but it doesn't give you that option. Stairs/multiple floor levels are also not available.
BUT ...
...always been a fan of the sims since it was released on PC, however I don't think any other console lives up the computer version.
This sims two on computer has the ability to have kids and watch them grow up, which is one of the main features, however I was disappointed to find that the Playstation version was the same as the original sims but in 3D.
The game takes ages to load especially when trying to customize your characters. However on the ... ...meet goals to move onto the next stage. Eventually you progress into a successful business person.
The graphics are very good (which explains the long loading times). The sound is also good but the songs that are played on the CD player (which you can purchase on the game) are very repetitive.
Overall it is a good game but if you have the choice go with the PC version. ...
MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME
Do you like strategy games? Do you like the sims? This game is for you. I bought this game last year 2008 from ebay and the minute the game came through the door i put the disc into the player and got going on it. I was then hooked. I did find this game hard to get used to all the different functions but now its so easy to play and do. You can set up to 6 different characters where you can choose whether or not they are male ... ...sim happy and amuzed all the time. But great fun. The hardest is trying to get them ready for work. If they are not happy they dont go to work. This is game is so addictive i sit and play this game for hours on end and the whole weekend some times. Its a good job you can save the game from where you last left off. The sounds are really good with the game but better when you buy a radio from the catalogue menu and purchuce one for the house turn it ...
Advantages: good graphics, extensive range of detail & choice. Hours of fun! Disadvantages: Cannot control pets, no specific goals like other sims games.
The Sims series originally started life on the PC but it has evolved immensely in the past few years and new editions are now available on other game consoles such as the Playstation 2, GameCube, Xbox and the Nintendo DS. The Sims formula has always been about imitating real life, controlling the Sims and their lives to complete the specific goals within the game while interweaving fun and humour.
The latest edition is an improved version of Sims2. It incorporates a host of delightful pets for the gamer to care for. At the beginning of the game you have to choose a character. There is a variety of attributes to choose such as gender, personality and aspirations as well as being able to customise the way your Sims look to create a totally unique Sim that only you can control.
Once you have done that you can then choose the pets ...
Advantages: Amazing gameplay and pet selection Disadvantages: No 2 Player.
Character Selection: The beggining is so cool, all you have to do is choose what sex of sim you want. Then you choose body shape, hair style, makeup, TShirt, trousers, shoes and accesorise. You can also add tatoo's and change your sims personality.
Pet Selection: You choose from a wide range of breeds of cat and dog. You change their fur colour and the markings. I think the detail when you design the animals is amazing - you can actualy alter their faces and the way their fur lies, you can even change their personality!
House Selection: You move your family to the house of your choice and then you can design how it looks with a selection of objects, carpets and wall prints!
Game Play: The gameplay is really good. You move your sim with the analog stick and depending on how much you move it they will run or walk. Your sim ...
Advantages: Playable, addictive Disadvantages: At times takes a while to achieve goals
though I reckon I am about ¾ of the way through the game and am now completely stuck. I have goals I can't complete and areas of the third island I cannot travel to, and this is really getting on my nerves! I feel I may have to search the Internet for some hints but I don't like doing this.
Overall this is a good game but can be frustrating at times (like now!) but I will carry on as I do like to complete a game. If you enjoyed Sims in the city then you will probably like this too.
I bought the game for £17.99 on Play.com. It is the PS2 version but I believe is available for PSP also. It requires an 8mg memory card for saving. ...
