The Sims is a platform style game from the people who brought us Sim City and so on. Maxi Electronic Arts or EA are renowned for their simulation games, whether they do people cities or sports.
The SIms can be picked up for less than a tenner nowadays although there are new expansion packs being brought out every year. I know of seven to date, but there is probably more:
Livin It Up Hot Date House Party Bustin Out On Holiday Superstar Makin Magic
Windows 95-98 233 MHZ Processor 32MB Ram Memory 175 MB Hard Drive 4 Speed CD/DVD 2MB Graphic PCI/AGP DirectX7.0 or compatible soundcard Keyboard and Mouse Input THIS GAME IS NOT NT SUPPORTED!!
Im not sure what all that means but my other half said its important so there you go!!
There is the ususal epilepsy warning on this game. You are advised not to play for longer than 10 - 15 minutes at a time and to move around inbetween times.
Although I play the game on my PC, it is available
in other game formats for the Nintendo Gamecube, XBox and PLaystation 2. These are slightly differing in game play but I think the concept is pretty similar.
The game consists of simulated people and their lives.
When you begin a game, you create a being. They can be named whatever you want. There is a choice of skin tone, hair colour, build and clothing. You can chose which sex and if you are creating a whole family, you can even create children. It is really good fun, trying to create people who look like the members of your family. I love it!
The graphics are very good and clear. You can zoom ina nd out to get a better view but detailing is very precise!
You help the Sims get a job (or send the children to school), keep the job and advance their careers. Miss two days at work and you are fired!!
You are responsible for the cleanliness of the house either by doing it yourself or hiring a maid. Friends are made by interaction and you can evevn get married and have a baby. You only have to kiss a few times and baby arrives in your living room. But beware, if you donot take car eo fit the social services will come and take it away from you!! I know from bitter experience!
In order to pursue your carerr you have to achieve skill points: creative, logical, cooking, mechanical etc. To gain these you paint, play chess and read books. (Respectively!) The more points you have the better a job you will get. I achieved the status of Major of Sim City once but then slept inthe next day and lost my job!! OooppS!
Jobs can be found in the newspaper deliverd each day or on the PC (if you can affod one!0 You start the game with a meer $695 Similonian dollars so you have to spend wisely!
The game is played in real time but can be quickened if necessary. It is up to you how your charcter behaves. You have to teach him the habits you expect of him, eg/ flushing the toilet, clearing the plates after lunch etc!.
As the game progresses you becomemore and more adventurous and you can begin to invite friends round for dinner. It may not sound difficult but you realy do have to watch your Sims Life Line chart because if he needs the loo, he will wee on the floor if necessary, or fall asleep in the middle of the garden!
As well as the people, you can also create your own houses. Bearing in mind you have very little cash to begin with, it is better to start with the ready made ones. You can furnish and decorate them as your budget will allow. I have, admittedly found a few cheats on unofficial Sims sites and have become a millionaire and have a luxury mansion with swimming pool, orangerie and hot tub. Sad I know!! Some of the furniture is naff but it really is like decorating your own home. Great fun!!
If you decide to move on to the expansion packs, then you can move outside of the home and go to the shops or on holiday. The SIms Bustin Out involves pets which need the same love and care as the people. The more expansion kits you get, the more complicated the game becomes.
To be quite honest, I prefer to stick to the basic game! I cant sleep for days if there is too much going on as I start to play the game in my sleep!
The game is easy to navigate and when starting for the first time you are obliged to play the tutorial game first. This shows you all the main functions of the game and helps you to recognise what your Sim needs. You can be as slow or as advanced as you like. It is really that adaptable.
The Sims speak in a gobbledy gook language, similar to that of the penguin Pingu. The music gets a bit annoying after a while but you can easily turn it off.
On the whole, this game is great fun for all ages. It kept me occupied throughout my pregnancy when I couldnt sleep at night! But believe me, it is so so addictive!
Hope this helps your decision to buy. Thanks for reading!!
