Peter Kay - The Sound Of Laughter
This is the only book that Peter Kay has published and I reckon is pretty good for a first attempt. He is a well know stand-up comedian and has been seen in many TV programs in his life including Max and Paddy's road to nowhere, Phoenix nights and Corrie.
The book is an autobiography. Believe it or not Peter's life didn't actually revolve around being a comedian in his early years but had always wanted to be one. Anyway enough of the story. The book tells us a very lot about his life but only really from his younger years. He mentions some things in great detail and not so much for other things. When he goes into detail you would get a great feel and actually feel like you were there with him. The thing about the book is that he would start to tell you something and then move onto another subject and then move back and forth etc so the book is actually quite choppy, so to speak.
Well the things that he does in all of his scripts and shows are actually his life experiences as I found out from this book and I guess that's what makes them so good and funny. I received the book as a Christmas present and got to reading it straight away I couldn't wait. I found the book really good because I've liked him since he first became known. When reading the book you can picture him standing where ever and in your head you can actually hear him saying the things in his typical Bolton accent, well you can if you've seen him as many times as me.
I can relate to Peter a lot through his book because I live in Bolton too and find that it all fits into place when I read it.
He has a lot to write about in this book but doesn't really mention his newer stage of life i.e. phoenix nights, Albert halls, that Peter Kay thing etc. this makes me wonder whether he is going to publish another book, I sure do hope so as I thought that this was great.
Another thing that I have noticed about the book is that it also contains quite a few spelling errors; this didn't stop me though I wanted to read it and enter his life even more. Anyway there are many good things about the book and a very few bad things but overall I think that this is quite a good book and I would recommend it to anybody who likes a bit of comedy and generally likes Peter Kay.
The book is all of the rage at the moment (as Peter would say) and can be purchased from most good book shops and places like Tesco and Asda for about £8.00 but it is steadily decreasing in price and becoming cheaper for the buyer in a bid to sell more copies.
Thank you for reading and I hope to be hearing from you soon.
