The Stainless Steel Rat joins the Circus.
Author - Harry Harrison.
The Hero or Anti Hero of the series of stainless steel rat books is Jim DiGriz. He was born or rather created in 1961 and has appeared on book shelves ever since.
The richest man in the galaxy, Imperitrix Von Kaiser Czarski, Hires Jim and his wife Angelina to investigate and if possible to catch the criminals behind several bank robberies. Jim, his wife and their son, James, find a common link to each robbery in that every time a bank has been robbed a Circus has been very near by.
Jim hires a retired magician, 'The Great Grissini' to teach him some tricks and then joins the circus pretending to be a magician!
As is the ilk with the 'rat' stories, there then follows some odd, fast paced and improbable adventures where Jim faces death, is conned, double crossed, jailed and commits some thefts before trapping the thieves in a cleverly thought out trap.
This is what I would call an 'Easy Read', the sort of book you can read on the beach whilst your half dozing in the sun. It doesn't take a lot of thought.
But by no means do I mean it's boring, predictable or childish. It's just written in a different style, which takes nothing away from the fun side of the book as you whip through the 269 pages.
This is a stand alone book but does run in a chronological order listed below.
The Stainless Steel rat. The Stainless Steel rat's Revenge. The Stainless Steel rat saves the world. The Stainless Steel rat wants you. The Stainless Steel rat for President. The Stainless Steel rat is Born. The Stainless Steel rat Gets Drafted. The Stainless Steel rat sings the Blues. The Stainless Steel Visions. The Stainless Steel rat goes to Hell. The Stainless Steel rat joins the Circus.
