Okay, who among you are sick of reading serious books? How many of you want a little light relief from War and Peace? Who wants to have a good old laugh with a little bit of toilet humour (literally). Well look no further, below is the answer.
Childrens books seem to cover a wide range of subjects these days from the educational to the downright disgusting. This book is both of the above but more then that it is incredibly funny.
First a warning. If you are of a nervous disposition or have a weak stomach then steer well away from this book. If however like me you have a wicked sense of humour that you share with your children then you will love it.
This book deals with a sensitive subject that many parents don't like to talk about but most kids find very funny. Poo!! Yes you read it right. Now why someone decided to right a book about this subject is beyond me but all the same they did and this is the story...
We start off with the little Mole, he decides to take a peek above ground when a large sausage shaped thing lands on his head. Of course he's extremely angry and demands to know who could do such a thing. Being a mole he can't see anyone to blame so he goes searching for the culprit.
The first animal he meets is a dove that happens to fly past, angrily he asks her if she had done this to him. Of course she hasn't and she shows him just how she does it. A white blob drops from the sky and splashes the little mole on his leg.
Next he meets a horse and asks the same question but again he gets the same reply and a demonstration of how the horse does it. These look like apples and just miss the mole but he is impressed all the same.
So his search goes on and all the while the sausage still sits on his head. He meets a hare and again asks if it were he who was responsible, only to get a demonstration of just how a hare does it. He has to leap out of the way as fifteen little round beans shoot past him.
He comes across a goat next who shows him that hers are not sausage shaped but toffee coloured little balls so she can't have been responsible.
Next (my favourite) is the cow, now this is really going to make you go yuk!! When asked if it did it the cow proves it's innocence by dropping a sloppy green pancake onto the grass. Needless to say the little mole is glad it wasn't the cow.
'Did you do it?' he asks the pig, but again he doesn't find the culprit as the pig plops a soft, smelly pile onto the floor.
Eventually he comes across two little flies who are busy eating some.... well, use your imagination on this bit!! Anyway he becomes excited and asks them if they know who did it on his head. They tell him to hold still whilst they examine it. Hmm. Then they tell him it was a dog.
At last he knows and very angrily he goes off in search of Basil the butchers dog. When he finds him what does he do. Well he climbs onto the kennel and returns the favour by dropping his own little sausage on the dogs head.
Happy with himself he jumps back into his hole and goes underground.
This book is very good for holding a childs interest. Not only for the obvious reasons, as we all know how much children delight in telling us about their bodily functions. Well mine do anyway!
It is a very repetitive book with each page starting off with the question 'Did you do this on my head?' and the answer 'Me? No, how could I, I do it like this!'
This makes it ideal for children who aren't too good at reading as they know what to expect and can join in.
The illustrations are very simply drawn but also quite graphic. With some pages showing the poo just as it's hit the ground and others showing the animal in the process of doing it!!
All in all a good book which tackles a little talked about subject without being offensive in any way.
If you get this book expect lots of ewww's, lots of yuks but most of all lots of laughs.

Review of The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business - Werner Holzwarth
Advantages: funny, clever, original Disadvantages: none
...giggling little audience. The Little Mole came to my attention thanks to my dearly beloved, who for some reason thought it might tickle me. And he was right: even just the title and the concept tickled me, so the next time I found myself in a bookshop with a fiver to spare I ventured into the kiddie section (which was like a journey back in time for me - I used to spend so much time in there begging my Mum to buy me all manner of books - shame the ... ...to locate a copy of the oversized book. I had been imagining something Mr.Men sized, but this is a landscape-A4. Curiosity could not be contained, and I whipped it out as soon as I was on the tube and proceeded to read - complete with giggles, snorts at snuffles at the delightful story, which goes something like this:
Our little Hero - The Mole - pokes his head out one morning only to have something or someone deposit a sausage on his head. Not ...

Quick review of The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business - Werner Holzwarth
This book may make you squirm a bit, but I can assure you kids will love it! I can't think of a single child (especially little boys) who wouldn't want to read a book all about poo. In my opinion, a very clever idea to get reluctant readers to pick up a book and realise that there is enjoyment in reading. ...

The Story of the LittleMoleWhoKnewItWasNone of HisBusiness by WernerHolzwarth and Wolf Erlbruch - the Plop-up Edition.
I bought this book for my nephew as a reward for using the "big toilet" to do a poo in. Bless him he's been finding it hard to come to terms with poo and toilets and in a last gasp effort to crack this last bit of his toilet training my sister decided that every time he did a poo in the big toilet that he would be rewarded with a book. He told me about this and I said I would buy him one too as I was very proud of him. He went all shy at this point - he is a typical boy!
So browsing Amazon for books in the 3 to 4 year old range I found all sorts of amusingly titled books but this title jumped out at me. It wasn't so much the title but the funny hat ...
