Fly for me, Sunbird

Advantages: Fascinating, brilliant book in all aspects
Disadvantages: None, absolutly none!

...at all.

The Sunbird is actually two books in one, cleverly built together in the very end, in a way that you may read as you want to read, meaning that this book will leave a different expression probably on each reader. The first part of the book is from “modern time”, where an archaeology team found what’s left of an ancient civilisation in Africa and comes there to explore it. We read on their findings but also on their personal ...
...part of the book is about few of the people who lived in that civilization that was found in the first part of the book, their lives and drama.

I loved the second part of the book, much more than the first part, and wouldn’t mind to read more about it. But on the other hand, I wonder if the book would have been as good if I wouldn’t have got to read the first part, they are very importantly linked together. What I love is that the ... more

The Sunbird - addictive

Advantages: ONe of the best by Wilbur Smith
Disadvantages: Could spoil the rest of his books , as some might not measure up

...best book and contains all the usual ingredients of war, love, friendship, betrayal and ultimate revenge. Written in two parts, the book draws parallels between the central characters in an age gap spanning thousands of years. The love story is the central part of the plot (and I'll leave you to decide which love story as there's more than one) and tells the tale of betrayal and revenge although it has to be said there's a bit more to it than that. ...
...keep you gripped from first page to last! the ending provides a nice twist - and thats both endings!! because as i said, the book is in two parts! Historically informative, as usual, wilbur gets the odd fact wrong, but that really doesn't spoil what is a rivetting good read! ...

labour of the ancients

Advantages: well researched, successfully recreating the life and mindset of the ancients of britain
Disadvantages: Disadvantages: story is slow placed and tedious in places

Stonehenge is a historical novel set 2000 years before the birth of Christ, and offers an explain the construction of Stonehenge. The story is centered around three brothers from the tribe of Ratharynn; The hotheaded warrior Lengar, his younger, initially weaker brother Saban, and the crippled and deformed outcast and self-made sorceror Camaban. Cornwell does a good job of bringing to life a cruel world in which the will of the Gods can be read from every shaft of sunlight, tremble of a branch and flight of a bird, in which the cunning yet unhinged Camaban rises to prominence and seeks to build a vast temple to bring together Slaol, the god of the Sun and Lahanna, the Goddess of the moon to usher ancient man into a new age. As with the sun god Baal in Wilbur Smith's "The Sunbird", these celestial deities are central characters in ...
