Boots Tan Towels

Similar to most people I like looking tanned but I do try not to use sun beds as they are so bad for your skin and I really don't want to look like Donatella Versace by time I'm 40. I must admit I may have the odd one but only about once every 5 months or so. I am really lucky in that my skin holds a tan really well so the occasional 6 minutes on the sunbed actually lasts me for ages.

So in my quest for that ever elusive great fake ...
...look like a Brazilian bronzed beauty but without the sun, one of those being TanTowels.

So in my quest for that ever elusive great fake tan I have tried many products that claim I will look like a Brazilian bronzed beauty but without the sun, one of those being TanTowels.

Each TanTowel is a towelette concentrated with self-tan, formulated to give you a quick and even application with no streaking, odour or skin discolouration. TanTowels can be applied to face or body and will produce a uniform, natural looking glow within 3 hours. For a deeper tan apply another TanTowel after 3 hours. To maintain your tan use 2 or 3 times weekly.

These are available in most high street stores including Boots, Superdrug, Savers, Bodycare, Lloyds the Chemist, and smaller stores that stock tanning products. You can buy these in single 1 towel packs or in boxes which have 10 towels in. Each towel comes wrapped in its own little packet which is silver with black writing and a black sun style shape on the front. They retail for about £1 for a single towel which is really good value. On the back of the packet it has details about the product plus instructions on how to use and the ingredients.

These are so easy to use. You just snip the packet open with scissors across the top, do this carefully though as you don't want to cut the actual towel! You can try and rip the packet as they usually have a little indent where you can rip across to open them. Then you take out the towel which looks a bit like a folded baby wipe, unfold it and then just stroke the towel over the area you wish to use it. Now these towels are very big I would say that out of each one you could get enough to do your arms and upper body but if you then wanted to use one on your lower body I would suggest using a separate towel. I would estimate each towel is about the same size as a baby wipe or face flannel so you can get an idea of how many you think you may need.

When you are using the towel you can feel that it is slightly damp this is due to the active ingredients that make you tan, as you rub this onto your skin you will notice that it starts to dry out a bit and you won't feel it on your skin as much. The thing I noticed upon using this was that it didn't really have any smell to it unlike most self-tanning products which is good as they always smell a bit yucky. This also means that you can safely use these on the same day as a big night out without always worrying that you smell of fake tan all night!

I find these really handy, no messy creams or sprays, just wipe over and that's it! Although as with any self-tanning product always make sure that as soon as you have used one of these that you wash your hands thoroughly otherwise you may end up with tango palm syndrome! No good having a nice natural looking tan all over and then bright orange or tanned palms that give the game away.

I have never had any problems using these, some people report that they find they do tend to streak but I always make sure that I am meticulous about how I apply these. I start at the wrist and work my way up the arm, front and back and on the inside too. Then I take it over my shoulders and around my neckline across and then down over my other shoulder blade and down the arm to the wrist then do the front back and inside of the arm. I then go across my chest and down over my boobs and around the back of my shoulders. I don't very often use these on my legs as I never wear skirts so there really isn't much need. I don't use these on my face even though the instructions do say they are suitable for facial use.

Now as it says in the directions one towel will produce a golden glow, if you want a deeper tan you need to use another towel 3 hours later to produce this. I applied one of these before coming to work this morning as I have a big night out planned tonight, that was 2 hours ago and I can see a bit of a change. I think when I get home from work I will probably use another of these as I feel like I want a darker result this time around. I like the way you can judge after 3 hours what the colour is like and then if you want it to be darker you then have the option of using another towel to get that effect.

They have a website which give bit of info http://www.tantowel.com this shows that they actually do other products such as tanning mists and towels big enough to tan the whole body which I never realised they did before. They also appear to do 2 different kinds of towels on there - 1 for new users or people with pale skin and 1 for those who tan regularly or have olive skin. You can order direct off the website but please be aware that the site appears to be American based as all there prices are in dollars. Also I am not sure if all of these products are available in the UK as I have never noticed them in the store I usually purchase my tan towels from.

All in all I think these are ideal if you are someone who is always on the go and wants to have a healthy looking glow but without all the hassle of applying self tan successfully. They are also great if you don't have anyone to help you with the applying of products to your back as you can reach this pretty easily using one of these.

And if you want any evidence of the kind of tan they achieve the picture in my profile shows the effect I got after using 2 of these tan towels with a 3hr gap in between on a recent night out - pretty good I think!
