Advantages: low price this way Disadvantages: you have to stick with the paper
The Daily Telegraph is a quality newpaper but at a very high price when you compare it to the Times . I think they are missing a lot of prospective readers with this high price tag. However, I have found out that is is possible to buy this newspaper for a lot less than the cover price, over 50% off in fact.
With the utmost respect to the Masked Magician this closely-guarded secret can now be revealed to all. I cannot guarantee that ... ...it is the key to getting on the Telegraph subscriber list. It certainly seems to have worked for me.
Firstly, you have to buy a full-price copy or get one somewhere. Search the paper for special offers eg. they have one today (10/03/2001) in their new Gardening section (very good too) where they are offering a free gardening book - you just have to pay for postage. The risky lucky-dip part comes next.

With the utmost respect to the Masked Magician this closely-guarded secret can now be revealed to all. I cannot guarantee that the following method will work for everyone but I think it is the key to getting on the Telegraph subscriber list. It certainly seems to have worked for me.

You have to fill in your details and send off this coupon with the postage money. In this particular case there is little risk as you are getting a good book for £1.89 Looking carefully at the coupon you will notice small boxes at the bottom asking you to tick which days you normally buy the Daily Telegraph. If it does not have these boxes then I wouldn't go any further.
In my case I filled in Saturday as I only bought it on a weekend occasionally. I think this response is then used by their marketing department to select people for subscriber offers.
A few months later, I had a letter in the post offering me the chance to subscribe to the Daily Telegraph at a cost of £1.50 per week. This included the Sunday paper which is over £1 in the shops. I was a loyal Times reader but you cannot argue with 7 newpapers for £1.50.
The paper has got a definite political slant but factually it is very good. I won't bore you with a rundown of whats in the paper, as quite a number of readers have written at length on the innards of the paper, but if you are looking for a quality newpaper at a low price then I think the subscriber route is the way to go.
As I've said I can't guarantee you'll get the offer but I think it's worth a shot. Coincidentally, todays paper features an internet opinion site (not Ciao I'm afraid).
Advantages: STYLE OF WRITING, CURRENT INFORMATION Disadvantages: FORMAT
...and people who work in the city to look interested in whilst commuting to the office. This is the general impression that I had regarding broadsheet newspapers, and the people that read them.
That was until I started to read them myself. There are several to choose from including the Times, Observer, Independent and my choice the Telegraph. In my opinion it is not the content of these broadsheet newspapers that give them a smaller reading than that ... ...me.
I’m sure that the women will be shouting that size does matter, but in the case of newspapers and mobile phones, small is definitely more desirable.
The telegraph describes itself as ‘Britain’s biggest - selling quality daily’, while I cannot confirm or deny this claim, I do however know that if I don’t get my copy fairly early in the morning then there are no copies left and I have to settle for another broadsheet ...

Advantages: Intelligent; literate; Disadvantages: Ragingly xenophobic piece of fascist propaganda
The Daily Telegraph has always been a wonderful newspaper for those who want to keep Britain great, lock up all communists and homosexuals, and give Johnny Foreigner a good seeing-to. To say that the Telegraph is right-wing is like saying that 'Hamlet' is an 'ok' play, or that Bill Gates is 'reasonably well off.' In fact, in its political stance, it has always been 'slightly to the right of Attila the Hun' (in the words of Tim Rice). However, it ... ...refer to that section of the populace now designated as 'Daily Telegraph Readers'? Crazed-Fascist-Fox-Hunting-Xenophobes doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Where now will we left-wing commie rascals find new things to object to? There's always the Daily Mail, I know, but somehow that's like dynamiting fish in a bucket. At least the Telegraph was a worthy opponent that was able to construct a literate and well-structured justification for why, ...

Advantages: Usually a good read. I LOVE the crosswords Disadvantages: Can be a little unwieldy to read in public places
...opinion about an article in the Telegraph,I should not have been SO SPECIFIC. I should have written about THE TELEGRAPH So here goes a REAL opinion on the TELEGRAPH! What do we expect from a Newspaper? What do we want from a Newspaper? Obviously the answers to these questions will be very personal. Most types of Newspapers will give us the News Headlines probably with a Left or Rightwing slant but the main difference between newspapers will be the ... ...then you must go for the comic variety, and this is what many of us want in our daily read. Some of these articles can be quite entertaining, but this is something we must remember that they are basically written to entertain the reader and NOT to inform! If on the other hand the only sleek glistening body we want to see on page 3 is an advertisement for a car then one must go for what are colloquially called the ‘quality’ papers. (This ...

Advantages: Superb journalism. Disadvantages: Cover price of 45p
The Telegraph has a bad reputation amongst non-readers. It is thought of as right wing and out of touch. This is far from the case. The newspaper has some of the best journalists to be found in the world. It is unrivalled for foriegn news and its opinion and letters pages are lively. For sport, and here I mean sport beyond football, The Telegraph is a superb way to keep up to date. Articles are well written and enjoyable to read. The Telegraph is ...

Advantages: Good Saturday read, good value Disadvantages: Mixed interest
...not a big fan of the Telegraph's traditional and right wing views, but I do tend buy it on Saturdays. There are lots of sections and the odds are that most people will find some of interest. The motoring section is fairly extensive and better than its competitors. The money and financial sections are good and comparable with the Times/Independent/Guardian. The colour section is glossy and panders to fashion with the occasional high impact feature. ...
Advantages: Cheaper papers, quality read, no scrabbling round for change. Disadvantages: Not all newsagents accept the vouchers.
This review is about The Telegraph and more particularly its subscription service. The essence of this service is that regular readers of The Telegraph newspaper can make significant savings on their paper bill by taking out a subscription with them for the year.
I am writing this review as I have had a subscription with them for the last few years and cannot fault it. Whilst trying to research it for the review I searched on The Telegraph website but could find no reference to the service whatsoever. It does mention the weekly telegraph but not daily. Subsequently I have come to shed some light on it and hopefully let some people in on the 'secret'.
Firstly The Telegraph itself - you don't want to be subscribing blind now do you! Obviously if you are reading this review as a current Telegraph reader, just skip to the section ...
Advantages: Local and national news six days a week. Disadvantages: None
Most towns and cities have their local means of publishing and broadcasting news to the citizens in their area and North East Lancashire is no exception with Radio Lancashire, originally called Radio Blackburn and The Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
Published six days a week in tabloid format, the LET is centred on Blackburn and covers the east Lancashire area at 27p a copy.
Established in 1886 the paper was printed in Blackburn until a few years ago, when Newsquest the current publisher took over and transferred the printing to Bolton, yet still manage to put each edition on the streets by around noon each day. If there is a breaking news story the 4.00pm edition will reflect this, not as a stop press bulletin but as headline news on the front page.
Although business adverts appear on every page, the bulk of the white space is ...
Advantages: convenience Disadvantages: lose out onat holiday times
It is good to get a quality paper at a reduced price. I received my first vouchers for free by post... unsolicited. I decided to subscribe on a quarterly basis thereafter.
The main drawback is when you go on holiday abroad, where the Telegraph is unavailable,or if it is, the vouchers are not accepted, then you lose out big time......In my case about 36 days a year paid for, (albeit at a reduced rate,) but no newspaper.
I usually place a regular order with my newsagent for the Telegaph each day and give him the vouchers in bulk,so he is the one currently profiting from my subscription, since my non usuable vouchers he gets the full price for!
More fool me then. I think a solution might be to ask the subscription service to refund any unused vouchers returned to them, or perhapscredit them to the account in some way, maybe to postpone ...
