The Daily Telegraph is a quality newpaper but at a very high price when you compare it to the Times . I think they are missing a lot of prospective readers with this high price tag. However, I have found out that is is possible to buy this newspaper for a lot less than the cover price, over 50% off in fact.
With the utmost respect to the Masked Magician this closely-guarded secret can now be revealed to all. I cannot guarantee that the following method will work for everyone but I think it is the key to getting on the Telegraph subscriber list. It certainly seems to have worked for me.
Firstly, you have to buy a full-price copy or get one somewhere. Search the paper for special offers eg. they have one today (10/03/2001) in their new Gardening section (very good too) where they are offering a free gardening book - you just have to pay for postage. The risky lucky-dip part comes next.
You have to fill in your details and send off this coupon with the postage money. In this particular case there is little risk as you are getting a good book for £1.89 Looking carefully at the coupon you will notice small boxes at the bottom asking you to tick which days you normally buy the Daily Telegraph. If it does not have these boxes then I wouldn't go any further.
In my case I filled in Saturday as I only bought it on a weekend occasionally. I think this response is then used by their marketing department to select people for subscriber offers.
A few months later, I had a letter in the post offering me the chance to subscribe to the Daily Telegraph at a cost of £1.50 per week. This included the Sunday paper which is over £1 in the shops. I was a loyal Times reader but you cannot argue with 7 newpapers for £1.50.
The paper has got a definite political slant but factually it is very good. I won't bore you with a rundown of whats in the paper, as quite a number of readers have written at length on the innards of the paper, but if you are looking for a quality newpaper at a low price then I think the subscriber route is the way to go.
As I've said I can't guarantee you'll get the offer but I think it's worth a shot. Coincidentally, todays paper features an internet opinion site (not Ciao I'm afraid).

I phoned there help desk and now paying £2 per week for the newspapers. Great value for 7 days of papers. The paper is good.
