I really do not like short stories at all and never buy them as I always feel cheated because there is insufficient detail or unexplained loose ends.
The thirteen problems was a present from my mother and I felt I should at least look like I was interested so I read the first story.I was quite shocked at how much I enjoyed it and how rounded the story was. Christie has cleverly set the scene as a story telling at a dinner party and has thus got around the need for thirteen different starts and backgrounds and enables a diving into the facts straight away which gives every tale a crisp edge to it.
I actually ended up reading the book at one sitting and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The gentle mannerisms of Miss Marple withher fluffy old lady image are in stark contrast to her penetrating observation of everyday details that enable her to unmask the most obtuse of villains while sitting in her chair.A great read for anyone. Those who like to read in smaller chunks would love this.
