How to be a gardener

Advantages: fantastic book from first principles to beyond
Disadvantages: None

In my opinion, this is probably one of the best gardening books available. It is written by Alan Titchmarsh, who is a nice, decent ordinary sort of bloke? who just happens to be one of the best gardeners in the United Kingdom. You'll probably have seen Alan on Gardener's World. I mean, Monty Don is a good chap and all, but it's never quite been the same since Alan left the programme, in my opinion. You could also have seen Alan on Groundforce and several other none gardening programmes and his memorable A Year At Kew. The book How To Be a gardener accompanied the highly acclaimed BBC TV programme of the same name. Bringing a Garden to Life

Advantages: A truly wonderful, inspiring book
Disadvantages: None

to be not only safer for the gardener and the people who might eat his or her produce, but also safer for the environment, too. For what was the point on using powerful insecticides that killed the bees that the gardener needed to propagate his or her plants? Which is where the book Bringing a Garden to Life comes in. It is published in conjunction with the charmingly named "Wiggly Wigglers". Basically, www.wigglywigglers.co.uk sell wormeries so that you can breed worms to help you in your garden, in a variety of ways. They help to condition soil and also can digest compost and help your composter to create some really choice compost. They sell other things, too, all aimed at making your garden a lively place filled with wildlife and great plants. That's enough of the background, let's get down to the review of the book. It is by ...

A garden to die for!

Advantages: Plenty to see and do for both adults and children
Disadvantages: None

The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland is a really lovely place to visit, as I discovered recently when in the area. I had decided to visit on the recommendation of a friend who had recently spent a day there, and had spent quite a while telling me about it afterwards. I was intrigued to find out more and visit here myself, as although I live in the North East and have visited many places in Northumberland, I had never visited The Alnwick Garden. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HOW TO GET THERE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Alnwick Garden is situated just off the A1 at Alnwick in Northumberland, and is well signposted if travelling by car. Buses connect Alnwick to surrounding towns and also Newcastle. If travelling by train, the east coast line stops at Alnmouth which is 4 miles away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE ALNWICK GARDEN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Alnwick ...
