Advantages: Good food for thought and quite inspiring Disadvantages: Calls for a leap of faith..
The Tibetan Art of Living is not usually a book I would read, but I picked it up in a New Age shop on a recent visit to Glastonbury. After skimming through it a few paragraphs intrigued me.
I tend to be a rather sceptical person, but I keep open minded about subjects preferring to EXPERIENCE truth rather than conceptualise it. Before going any further in the review of this book, let me try to explain?
I see an experience as something that is absolute truth - you know it because you experience it. On the hand, a belief is something that may or may not be true. I see it like this? Books generate beliefs, and truth will either be realised or not realised by what you experience after digesting the content of a book and "looking" for yourself.
What follows are the feelings that were generated in me as a result of reading this ...
Advantages: Great debut for Roger Moore, DVD brimming with extras Disadvantages: No Dolby Digital soundtrack
Live and Let Die marks the first Bond outing for Roger Moore as Britain's favourite secret service agent 007, and what an explosive film it is!
Full of voodoo witchcraft, New Orleans jazz and Tarot cards that always turn up displaying Death! Live and Let Die sees James Bond investigating the death of three MI6 agents. This leads him to the drug lord Mr Big, and the dictator of San Monique, Dr Kananga (who turn out to be the same person). Here Voodoo and Witchcraft conspire to stop Bond from finding out the truth, as does a Tarot card wielding assistant in the form of Solitaire (Jane Seymour). However, the iron handed TeeHee steals the show, with his attempt to feed Bond to the crocodiles!
The DVD is a sumptuous affair, another in the long line of remastered Bonds that are being produced in chronological order. This shows ...
Advantages: Great Bond film Disadvantages: A little cheesy, nothing major though
Following Sean Connery's 1 film return in Diamonds Are Forever, and with George Lazenby having burnt bridges with his behaviour and demands following On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the Bond team needed a new man to fill the shoes of the charismatic MI6 agent. Enter Mr. Suave, Roger Moore, to film Live And Let Die, the first of 7 films in which he was to play James Bond.
The Plot
Following the suspicious deaths of three agents, James Bond 007 is sent to New York to infiltrate a heroin-producing ring, where he encounters the mysterious Dr Kananga and Mr. Big. Kananga's henchmen are formidable, with a voodoo master, tarot card reader and a right hand man with a claw instead of a hand! Bond must have his wits about him as he travels to Kananga's Caribbean island to stop the drugs lord.
