The story of the time machine is a haunted tale and you can see why the ending was changed for the silver screen.
It is about the cannibalistic Morlocks living, quite literally, off of the gentle Eloi. It was written in another time and age when PC was unheard of and where the lines between good and evil where as clearly defined as black is from white. Once the morlocks enter the story there is a creeping dread and an inhuman and malign atmosphere that permeates the story from that point onwards.
The Cast: ======== The Time Traveller. The Eloi. Weena. The Morlocks. Filby.
The book is a wonderful 'if dark' romp through the amazing but deadly future which was and still is a classic in every sense of the word.
The descriptions of when the time traveller moves forward and forward through time again and again are excellent and shows what an imagination Wells had.
The writing is simply spell binding and a true page turner in every sense of the word. The future looks beautiful but awful at the same time. There really is a creeping dread portrayed throughout the book.
At 100 pages long you will soon whip through this book.
Advantages: A page turner, you will read again. Disadvantages: Way too short.

Advantages: Persuasive and enormously influential science-fiction. Disadvantages: Perhaps too abstract for readers of the realist novel.
First published in 1895, 'The TimeMachine' is the first in H. G. Wells' impressively consistent bibliography, followed a year later by the equally (or perhaps more) famous 'War of the Worlds.' Time-travelling DeLorians and all Star Trek episodes where the characters wind up in the late 20th century and have hilarious mishaps (ha ha) owe their existence to Wells' innovative sledge.
'The TimeMachine' is one of the first truly extrapolative science fiction stories, meaning that its science and predictions are based on futuristic estimates of current trends, and are plausible to some degree (as opposed to Swift's fairies and things). Wells bases his anonymous Time Traveller's discoveries on current scientific thinking, with only the slightest hint of magic to distinguish his world from ours, as the timemachine is made of a partially ...
Advantages: A concise classic you can read in an afternoon. Disadvantages: Perhaps should have been longer, more time periods etc.
Overview
Victorian scientist invents timemachine, goes 200,000 years into the future, has some adventures, comes back tells friends about it. Simple as that. Considering how complicated some modern tales of time travel get, the original does it with simplicity and suprising brevity coming in at just over 100 pages.
Review
I am now well aquainted with H.GWells's wirting style having read his main five science fiction novels in quick-succession. And 'quick' is right for none are much over a hundred pages long. More 'novellas' really or novellettes, I lack fim details on the distinctions. And what I have found is this. Wells is not a natural writer. That is, his stories, for me, lack character. He comes up with these huge culture impacting ideas that resonate so strongly and and are still adapted to this day. Reading his stories ...

And when the scientist's time machine vanishes it becomes clear he must search these tunnels if he is ever to return to his own era.
