It is not what I'd call a specialist in depth guide but it certainly has enough in it to get new gardeners started and the book provides useful pointers.
Different varieties and types of shrubs are mentioned including tips on soil likes and dislikes and suggestions and helpful ... ...in typical Hessayon style and the books are good value for the price they are on sale at.
If I were reccomending a book for beginners this would certainly be up there in contention.
For an easy at a glance guide at a reasonable price look no further . after all these series of books have been around for years . This has not happened by accident. ... more

Old favourites such as Ilex ( holly ) , Jasminum , euonymus , cotoneaster , prunus , rhododendrons , forsythia to name but a few are all included .
In fact you would be hard pressed to find a common everyday tree or shrub that dosen't get a mention . In addition most plant types have a small colour picture in typical Hessayon style and the books are good value for the price they are on sale at. If I were reccomending a book for beginners this would certainly be up there in contention. ...of plant a great help.Over the years I keep changing my garden and find all I want to know in this book about shrubs.I need to know if they like the soil and how large they grow.Also as I like perfume I look for that.There are pictures of the trees and shrubs which are extremely helpful if you have colour schemes.It also tells you how to propogate which is useful as different ones sometimes need different methods.All in all it is very comprehensive ...
