Discover the Force of Nature

Advantages: Beautiful places to visit
Disadvantages: None

High Force and also Low Force Waterfalls are places I have visited many times over the years. Situated in Middleton-in-Teesdale, not far from both Raby or Barnard Castle, the waterfalls are a great place to visit for a day out, or as part of a drive through the stunning countryside in the area. High Force is without a doubt one of the most impressive waterfalls in England. The River Tees has been plunging into this gorge for thousands of years, but the rocks it reveals are even older, and date back over 300 million years! You will find High Force located along the B6277, 4 miles from Middleton-in -Teesdale. It is well signposted, just follow the brown tourist signs. You will come to a car park where you will be charged £2.00 to park your car. You then take the woodland walk, which will take you to the waterfall. Admissions prices to ...

Review of High Force Waterfall

Home James!

Advantages: 18 tracks of pure brilliance and some wonderful lyrics
Disadvantages: None

study his lyrics (christ knows what that man's on) but in a way that can stop you and force you to listen. In 'Sometimes' (the BEST track James have ever recorded) Tim Booth sings 'sometimes when I look in your eyes I swear I can see your soul'. The song tells the tale of a storm and a dying child caught in its thrall. 'Ring the Bells' is a song that just grows and grows, building itself up into a wonderful piece of frantic brilliance - even better when heard live with Tims lyrics once again soaring with some truly inspired words - 'When you let me fall, grew my own wings now I'm as tall as the sky - When you let me drown, grew gills and fins now I'm as deep as the see - When you let me die, my spirit's free, there's nothing challenging me' In 'Waltzing Along', which is a different version than the slower number released ...

Review of Best Of James, The - James

The Name Was Hunt, James Hunt

Advantages: A fascinating and intelligent account of the life of a sporting great
Disadvantages: The subject nature will perhaps put off those unfamiliar with Formula 1

noughties. The 70s were politically turbulent, gaudy, vulgar and very difficult, but they were also energetic, abrasive and exciting years, years when things could get done without the need to jump through an assault course of hoops and people could tell others what they really thought of them (within reason) without inviting an immediate thumping by the passive-aggressive heavies of political correctness. Formula 1 in the 70s was as much a reflection of its time as it is now: it was loud, grubby, slightly chaotic, brash and very very dangerous. It also necessarily produced driving stars that were cut from a somewhat rougher cloth than that from which derives many of our sweet-young-things of the present. James Hunt, for those who still have youth on their side, was one of Britain's most famous and talked-about sports stars of the 1970s. He ...
