    Friedrich Dürrenmatt creates for this play a fictional town in Central Europe called Gullen (translates to 'manure' from Swiss), and this is where all of the action of the text takes place. The town was once prosperous and bright; but many years have past since then and the economy has decayed to almost nothing, the whole town is facing bankruptcy. Their one ray of hope comes in the form of a visit from a former resident of the city who has since leaving attained high status and vast wealth, as well as a few prosthetic limbs!
