I have stumbled across this book by accident and so didn't have any expectations whatsoever. Saw a lot of criticism on it later (american version of Lord of the Ring, too many similarities etc) but i have to say i quite liked it. The beginning does look a lot like LOTR. 3 young guys from a very quiet village that knows nothing of the world outside it's boundaries (and is not really that interested), all of a sudden end up in the middle of events that will change the whole world (beating the evil guy to save all that's good). And so they go on a journey towards the unknown together with a few more villagers and couple of misterious companions. So yes, it does have similarities. But then the story has it's own life. It's dark and it's gripping and you do want to find out what happens at the end. On the downside, it is way too serious. You know that language that the wise ones use to tell you a very important and particularly dark myth. So it can become a little tiring. I know saving the world from the darkness is not a funny business but a few jokes now and then would have made it a much easier and more realistic read. All in all, i did finish the book and can't say i didn't enjoy it, but to start the next one from the series...not so sure. Maybe if the mood is right.
