This was the second PhilippaGregory book a read and also the second historical novel. I went out and bought it immediately after reading "The Other Boleyn Girl".

This book is set in the period of the boy King Edward who at only 15 was in poor health and known to be dying. Robert Dudley meets a young girl dressed as a boy working in her fathers shop. Hannah and her father have escaped the Inquisition and are hiding on London. Hannah has a vision of an angel standing behind Robert and so he takes her to be a Holy Fool at court. However, as King Edward's health fails further, Hannah is sent to be companion to Princess Mary, but with orders to spy upon her and report back to court.

to inherit the land she loves so much, then at the very least to maintain a very strong hand on the reigns and a chance to pass it on to her own children. Without giving away too much of the plot, you can expect a lot of drama, the odd murder, some shocking moments, and some truly heartfelt moments too.
From being the much loved daughter of a squire and a thoroughly lovable young lady, Beatrice turns into a manipulative, conniving young woman who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Strangely, I found myself not losing sympathy for her, as, underpinning everything she does, is a genuine love for her children and for the land she has always called home. That said, however much sympathy I had for her, she wasn't a very likeable character after the first few chapters.
