This was the first Ann Rice book I ever read and have read it a second time since! I have to say that this is perhaps the most intelligently written book of this genre that I have ever read! It is absolutely amazing. It keeps you riveted all the way through. There are so many clever twists and turns and the fact that it is written in a way that chronicles the history of a particualr family means that you never get bored. The historical references and descriptions of different centuries are so accurate that you almost feel that you are sucked into them. You become so familiar with the characters at each stage that it is quite an upheaval to leave them to go on to the next. The same thing happens at each stage and piece by piece you are solving a mystery as to why, and how events have turned out the way they have and you suddenly understand the importance of the present day characters in who feature all the way through the book. I could go on forever....what an imagination this author has!
