own home? Well here's your chance thanks to those wonderful people at BullFrog software and the PlayStation 2.Based on the PC title of the same name, the aim of the game is to build your dream park and keep it running, dealing with the day-to-day trials and tribulations of keeping the rides working and the punters happy. Strategy is all important here--place your burger stand too close to a rollercoaster entrance and the riders will stagger off the attraction and become "unwell" all over the floor. Too much salt on your chips and not enough fizzy pop results in parched visitors who vote with their feet and don't come back--this is not a game for those who like action fast and furious and pick up a game for a quick five minutes now and again. The user interface is a joy to use, makingTheme Park Worldeasy to play; in tutorial mode an interesting park advisor pops up to give tips on what needs to happen, where and when. But it's in the rollercoaster design phase that things get interesting. Lay out the track for your ride in full 3D, then alter it in differing ways to produce a killer ride--corners can be banked, straights raised and lowered and sections can be added and removed to create the kind of white knuckle ride Walt and Mickey would be proud of, then, using the game's first-person mode check it out from the front seat for that impression of being there.Successful park management results in golden tickets being awarded. Collect enough tickets and the player can progress to bigger and more challenging themed parks, each of which presents its own unique challenge. The long-term attraction of this game is doubtful, and only significant playing will reveal whether the whole procedure will become a little samey, but for a break from the traditional arcade-style fare usually associated with the consoles,Theme Park Worldholds bags of promise and is a worthwhile investment for the more thoughtful PS2 owner.

Alton Towers and Chessington World of Adventures eat your hearts out, creating your own theme park is a whole lot cheaper, and loads more fun. Okay, well for adrenalin rush junkies it's perhaps not more fun, but it sure is enjoyable all the same.
Theme Park World gives you the chance to build your own amusement park in four different themed lands. Entry to the various lands is gained with a certain number of golden keys, one of which you are given to start you off. One key allows you access to the Magic Kingdom and Halloween World. The other two lands - Wonder Land and Space Zone require three and five keys respectively so are initially out of bounds.
It doesn't really matter where you start as all lands present you with the same set-up to start - $50,000 to play with, the park entrance gates and a short path leading onto a relatively small fenced in plot of land, set within a further expanse of land for sale.
Your job, in which ever land you choose, is to build your park from scratch - lay the paths, put in the rides sideshows food outlets features and facilities from the initial 20 ish items available. Decide on prices, employ and train your staff, research new items, keep the park clean and well maintained and try to keep the customers happy.
There's an optional 'guide' to help you through the game and although his incessant rambling can get a touch annoying at times I'd recommend leaving him switched on. He'll help you to create and maintain a thriving park by giving little hints as to how you are doing. He tells you when new items are available for purchase, advises you if your prices are too high or too low, warns you when rides are about to break down, and suggests staffing requirements.
The other thing he does is talk about golden tickets that you can win. These tickets are awarded for various achievements such as getting a specific number of people into your park, making a certain percentage profit, building a particularly large roller coaster or a very exciting go-cart track, or it may just be for making all your park visitors very happy.
The tickets can be exchanged for mystery rides to place in your park, but more importantly for every third ticket you win you are also awarded a golden key. As stated earlier, the golden keys unlock new themed lands to build up, so it's well worth aiming high and collecting as many tickets/keys as you can.
As well as tickets and keys, you are offered challenges to attempt with quite large financial rewards given on successfully completing them. There are various tasks given such as getting 15% of your visitors to buy a balloon in 60 days, keeping your toilets very clean for 30 days, or building a particular ride. Some of the challenges are really easy to do and others are pretty tough... the good thing is there's no penalty for failing a challenge, so they're always worth accepting and success is great for your profits
If the worst happens and you find yourself in financial difficulty you can get a loan, but beware! Some of the interest rates are very high and you may end up in deeper water than you were before. The best way to avoid this is to spend no more than half your initial $50,000. Although it's tempting to blow the lot and get all the rides as soon as you can, you have to remember that for a while you'll be paying more money out at the end of the month on staff and stock than is coming back in, so take it slowly.
Hopefully, you should find over the period of a few game years (a game year in real time is not even an hour) you are raking in the profits and your park becomes pretty self-sufficient. Then comes the time for buying up the surrounding land and really going to town with large exciting roller coasters and the like. Tweak your rides, speed them up, buy upgrades, and don't forget to try them out - yup, you can try all the rides! The air tour is a great way of viewing your park from above, and riding the roller coaster gives you an insight into what your park visitors’ experience. Great fun, but remember you only have yourself to blame if you feel sick afterwards.
As long as you have the required number of keys, you can access whichever land you want whenever you want. You simply save your current land progress, exit to the lobby and enter a different one. Each themed land runs independently of the others so financial status/customer satisfaction etc is not carried over. Great if you cock up and want a fresh start, but a little frustrating when a particular park does really well... it would be handy to be able to carry over or borrow the funds. On the plus side though, tickets and keys do carry over from park to park.
What I'm not sure about is if the game ever ends. I currently have 4 pretty successful parks including one that's been running for 13 (game) years and has made over $1,000,000. I've also accumulated 8 golden keys but they seem almost purposeless as just 5 allow access to all the lands. I keep wondering if there is something more to the game? Perhaps a hidden land that will be unlocked after a certain number of keys? Or maybe further bonus rides and attractions for the existing parks? But whether my interest will hold up long enough to find out I don't know.
This game is highly addictive and has certainly provided me and hubby with many hours of fun. At £9.99 from HMV I'd say it was a great buy, but it does have it's faults...
Theme Park World, from Bullfrog, followed on some 5 years after the original version (Theme Park) was released in 1994. Although general game play has been taken to a new level of enjoyment and excitement with the different themed lands and new rides, the rest hasn't advanced so well.
The animations are still very cartoon like, close up viewing still painfully poor, and the visuals can appear blurred and blocky. The game gets pretty slow and unresponsive as you make progress in your park, and the sound follows suit causing the park guide to repeat himself over and over and over and over and over and over and.... you get the idea.
The instruction manual is lacking too. Theme Park had a book to accompany it, which really aided a beginner, but Theme Park World basically carries installation instructions, and some support website addresses and telephone numbers.
If you are more into technical perfection than fun game play this game will probably annoy the hell out of you. You'd perhaps be better with Roller Coaster Tycoon which certainly offers a very clean cut amusement park game, although in HMV it was twice the price.
Overall, despite the imperfections, Theme Park World is a great game. The website is fun too, and offers you the chance to publish your parks online and visit parks submitted by people from all over the world. You can also download new rides and a patch that fixes a couple of bugs you might encounter during play. You do have to register, but it is free and only takes a minute. In case you can't guess its www.themeparkworld.com
The minimum system requirements are Windows 95/98, 200 MHz processor, 32 MB RAM, 300 MB hard drive space, 4x CD-ROM drive, 4 MB Video Card and Sound Card compatible with DirectX 6.1
Advantages: good graphics, looks fun Disadvantages: complicated, seemed to get stuck at one point
I was given Theme Park as a birthday present, after many happy hours playing Theme Hospital and expected to love playing this game. I installed it easily enough on the computer, read the booklet, then began to play. However, I seemed to get stuck in the same place every time I tried to play it. I could build and position the first ride, then I seemed to grind to a halt and I wasn't sure what to do next. I consider myself to be quite computer literate ... ...The CD-ROM computer game, Theme Park, was made by Bullfrog in 1994. The graphics are very good and it looks like it could be an absorbing and quite addictive game, if you have the patience to pursue it. The game comes with a New Business Portfolio, which is actually a detailed booklet about the game. The aim is to make your theme park the best and you receive a statement which rates yours against 40 others in six different categories - Richest Owner, ...

...nice, solid and improved original, Theme Park World was a bit of a let down, it didn’t have the addictive pull of the original game so Bullfrog are at it again with Theme Park Inc. Advantages: Addictive, absorbing, puzzle game Disadvantages: None
Build a themepark, boring you say? Not at all, this is a very absorbing and detailed game. Lots of rides and puzzles and different challenges.
There are many scenarios from starting a park from scratch, rescuing an ailing park and developing small parks.
The idea is to manage the themepark, building rides, stalls, hiring staff, developing new rides and making sure that the paying publice like it. There are detailed touches such as the scenery options and many variations of rides to build. The underground tunnels are a great option and the variations seem endless.
There are hours of fun in this game, if you like management games, you should like this. It makes themeparkworld look poor in comparison.
An all time classic PC game. ...

How often have you thought that it?d be a good idea to manage a hospital? Well, if you?re like me then the thought won?t ever have entered your head.
Theme Hospital is the unlikely successor to ThemePark, which took the computerworld by storm a few years ago. If you?ve played ThemePark you?ll understand the idea behind Theme Hospital as both games, apart from the graphics, are strikingly similar.
You probably are already guessing the scenario: build a hospital, hire doctors, cure lots of patients and advance to the next level. Well you are right and this is what you basically do (or are meant to do). You begin with a small plot of land and are given the brief to build up a decent reputation and cure so many people as you can before you can tackle the more advanced next stage. You begin by building various treatment rooms ...
Advantages: A game that will keep you with something to be getting on with for ages Disadvantages: It may be old, but the graphics are very poor even for a PS1 game

Price and Age reccomendation:
ThemeParkWorld can be found as cheap as £4.99 these days since it came out around 1997 on PS1. It may be more expensive on PS2 though since it's a later model and would probably cost about £15.00 more! The PS1 version would play in your PS2 anyway so what's the point of buying something largely more expensive? The only difference is that the PS2 version won't have some poor graphics whilst the PS1 version will. But anyway, the age reccomendation is 3 and up so is a safe game for anyone to play. Some fun gaming for a great price! ( PS1 memory card is ...
