Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000 struggles to be a Live cam

Advantages: Good picture quality
Disadvantages: No end of trouble with Windows Live Messenger

Introduction Since the late 90s at work, we have always used webcams to provide the photo identity for our ID cards. We have never had any preference to a particular make meaning we have tried 3Com, Creative and Logitech in the past. Now it was Microsoft's turn in the form of the Lifecam VX-3000. This camera was supposedly a middle of the range camera at its time of release, higher in spec than the VX-1000, but lower than the VX-6000. In the box Considering the size of this webcam and the fact there wasn't a user manual included in paper form, I found the box to be very bulky. In typical Microsoft fashion the box was big and bold and was definitely the brainchild of the Microsoft marketing department as a box half the size would surely have been sufficient. Advantages: EXELENT BUILD STURDY GREAT COOLING AND SPACE AND QUIET TO
Disadvantages: HEAVY NO DUST FILTER ON SIDE FAN

wow this is the case i have owned this case for 3 months now and i am very impressed when it arrived at my door was so shocked with the sheer size of this case its huge! i have now managed to fit all my components inside with ease i have a zalman nvidia cpu 120mm fan inside and plenty of room left . the temperatures inside have also dropped by 10-15 degrees just by the exelent airflow inside thermaltake have it right the fans inside are 1x120mm in the front + space for 2 more 120mm 1x120mm exhaust in the back 1x 90mm hdd fan at the back and 1x90mm exhaust up top a huge 25 cm fan on the side pannel optimized for sli and overclocking hard drive spaces up to 10 cd drive spaces up to10 the only bad points with this case are weight very heavy and the 25 cm cooling fan has no dust filter and i had to buy longer sata ...

Webcamtastic for Microsoft Lifecam VX3000

I recently decided to upgrade my aging Pace webcam and after looking at various models of new super dooper cams I plumped for the Microsoft Lifecam VX3000. Microsoft seem to dominate the world with products nowadays, however it is a name you can trust and generally you get a good quality product. This was true when I received the unit, it had a quality feel to it. Microsoft have various incarnations of their webcams ranging from the entry level VX1000 to the highly specced and highly priced VX6000, whilst I suppose you pay for what you get, i was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the images from the unit. After the installation of the drivers from the enclosed CD, it's a straight foward process, just plugging into a spare USB socket and windows recognises the device and loads the drivers for it.
