Braun Thermoscan Advantages: Ultimate reassurance, high accuracy, so simple to use Disadvantages: A bit pricey ...trawl around and found the Braun Thermoscan on special offer on the Boots website. Normally retailing at just under 40 pounds, we managed to pick it up for just under 30pounds, a real bargain. It really is so simple, switch it on, wait for 3 digital lines to appear, press the button, put it in her ear and within 2 seconds it beeps to tell you the temperture has been recorded. Thats it!! Simplicity. Now of course I then check time and time again ... ...with the same temperature each time so I feel quite confident about its accuracy. It comes with disposable earpieces so as not to spread any infection, very clear directions, and its own case for easy storage. A very accurate Thermometer Advantages: Easy to use and very accurate Disadvantages: none ...one we should and that Calpol made them. Later that night my daughter seemed to get worse and started panting like a dog. We telephoned NHS direct who said we should strip her down to a vest and nappy and give her some paracetomol, about two minutes after that there was a gurgling noise, my daughter went limp, eyes glazed over and stopped breathing. Every parents worst nightmare. After we put her on her side she threw up and started breathing again. ... ...to Boots to buy the Calpol Digital Ear Thermometer. We then kept a check on her temperature throughout the rest the day. It shot back up to over 40 degrees so we took her back into hospital, where the nurses said it was a good job we had taken her back, if her temperature had gone up much more she would again be in danger of having another seizure. A must have First Aid item Advantages: Safe, accurate, easy to read Disadvantages: Takes a long time to take a reading I bought the Boots digital thermometer in preperation of the birth of my son, I have used it countless times in the 6 months we've had him. I used it first when he was a few days old, to get an idea of his 'usual' temperature, as a childs temperature can vary between 36 centigrade and 37.5 centigrade. The thermometer itself retails at £8.99 and comes in a hard, clear plastic casing to protect it, also keeping it clean. It can be used either under ... ...be higher under the tongue than the armpit. Funky yet practical Advantages: Accurate, easy to use, stylish Disadvantages: Relatively expensive, short plug lead The first worry when I became a parent was preventing SIDS Amongst the big prevention factors is keeping the room at the right temperature.I am hopeless at judging temperature, and find the Groegg is a brilliant invention. It is thermometer which accurately reads the room temperature and changes colour for a quick and easy way to check the room is in the safe temperature bracket.
