Manufacturer's product description
Just because you need a compact, ultralight notebook computer for maximum portability doesn't mean you should make unnecessary sacrifices. The new ThinkPad 240 mini-notebook was designed to be an extremely easy to carry, easy to use, easy to connect superslim notebook for professionals who value portability. Weighing about 1.3 kgs and approximately 26mm thin, the ThinkPad 240 features the durable IBM ThinkPad casing that packs all the features you need to work comfortably virtually anywhere, anytime. A keyboard that is 95% the size of current standard ThinkPad notebook keyboards for an amazingly comfortable typing experience. A crisp active matrix TFT display offers ample room for viewing e-mail, exploring the Internet or working on a presentation. And because most of the commonly used standard ports are onboard, there's no need to carry the extra port expander bar that most other mini-notebooks require.
Advantages: Small size, ease of use, light weight Disadvantages: Startup time
...When I first got the notebook I could not believe the sheer size of it. It is only 26cm wide, 20cm in diameter and 2.7cm in height and also it only weighs 1.5kg. The dimensions and the size makes this notebook a great tool for people on the constant move that need to have a portable computer with them at all times.
The notebook comes with a Pentium III Mobile Processor which runs at 500MHz and also it is equipped with no less than 192Mb of RAM and a 12GB Hard Disk Drive(HDD). This is more than enough for the laptop to run smoothly, it is designed for Windows 98 and 2000 Professional but I am running Windows XP Professional SP1 with no problems.
From using the notebook myself I have come to see that having such a small notebook has its advantages. You can set it up anywhere and also if you have a full battery it will last you...

...I recently won an IBM Notebook 240. Not having much experience with computers, I found everything easy to set up and use. The instructions were very clear on how to set up and use the special functions. A big plus is the free 24/7 800 IBM help desk number if you have any problems.
The 240 notebook is very light weight and compact. Thus the 240 makes a great travel notebook by taking up less space (such as air travel.) But yet it is very durable.
Another other nice feature is the suspend mode when you are
using the battery, saves power. The track point instead of a mouse allows quicker typing by not having to remove your fingers from the keyboard.
Nothing to say on the negative side. Will keep you updated.
Overall I would rate it a 10....

Advantages: Small lightweight and very portable Disadvantages: Relatively slow and no internal FFD or CD
...Notebook design is a compromise between 'built-in' features and portability - this one is very portable!
In order to keep the system as small and as light as possible, IBM have pared this down to the absolute minimum, to the extent that it doesn't even have a floppy drive or CD in the case (these can be plugged in - if you need them)
How small is small? - well - just a little bigger than the 10x8" screen, so it's certainly sub-A4.
The result is a very small, very sexy colour notebook which is well up to most business tasks, and still draws envious looks when you pull it out at meetings!
I've been using my 240X for around four months now, having abandoned my old desktop PC at work.
The particular system I have is a TP 240x - model 2609-62G - that means it comes with a PIII 500MHz (256KB cache) 64MB RAM 12.0 GB 2.5" HDD 10.4" TFT 800x...

Not being a slave to fashion or one to follow the crowds I resisted the temptation to buy an iPod, iPod mini or the Nano when they were first released onto the market initially due to the expense and the fact that I rarely listen to music on the move. A... more
