Firstly let me explain why I'm writing this review. I bought one of these on Ebay for 25 Uk Pounds sold as spares or repairs. Fixed the problem (needed Cmos battery at a cost of 7 Pounds), popped in a Wifi Pcmcia car (12 Pounds) and now I'm surfing the web!!! Myspace, Ebay, Emailing, writing this review! All for less than 50 quid?? Okay, its not the greatest looking, shiny, super duper fast new laptop but my wife has just bought a laptop for 1000 Pounds and what does she use it for?......Myspace, Ebay, Emailing, writing reviews!! This laptop is abound 8 years old I guess but if it has survived so long I'm sure it will keep going for some time longer. My wife's new shiny toy has been to the PC doctor a couple of times so far, and oh yes she has asked to use my "Old Tank" while her "Zippy new Porsche" is having its oil changed. Metaphorically speaking of course! So, once again its not a great looking laptop but its built very solidly. Nice bright screen. No noisy fan (again referring to my wife's laptop). Keyboard feels good and not too "plasticy". It plays Mp3s, shows my photos, plays my CDs through its little speakers, plays my DVDs (although to be honest not very well) surfs the net fast and sufficiently and that's basically it. Best 44 quid I can remember spending really. I haven't talked about the spec. of this laptop as I feel that's not that important. Its what it can do for you not why or how. My wife's laptop has a blinding spec. but what she uses it for I cant help feeling maybe these days new computers a becoming a bit "overqualified" with what an average person uses computers for. That's just my opinion.
Sure, it wont play the newest games, edit video for broadcast, fly a rocket to mars etc. but if that's what you need to do the of course this is not for you. But If you want a machine to surf the web with your broadband connection get on Ebay and good luck bidding!
Advantages: well it runs good and is very durable Disadvantages: speed and USB 1.0 for file transfer
my think pad 600 E is slightly faster with 168MB Ram and a 10GB Hard drive i cant play new games on it but i can use it for word processing pictures internet play some older clasic games it run great for only 366MHZ though dont slow up to much but if you are looking for something cheap protable to do thing that arent to processer intencive i say get one Its a tough cokie two they dont break easy you could use this as a starter computer for a child ...

Advantages: Reliable, preforms well about what you expect! Modular drives Disadvantages: Specs apear to be "Defunct"
...As I write a review about a laptop that is six years old, it makes me wonder why I am doing this. Like any self respecting nerd I should be telling the world that it is a useless pile of junk, however there is something endering about my old ThinkPad that makes me use it on a daily basis, and pass over newer machines to use it.
People may scoff when I produce the large black, rubberized rectangle from a Compaq case, but when I turn it on people begin to understand why I use such an "obsolete" machine. On paper the 600E is undoubtedly "retro," using nothing more than a Pentium II 400mhz processor, 128megs of RAM, and not a CD-RW or DVD-RW in sight. The machine has the origional "Designed for Windows 98" labels on the keyboard, but I chose to run XP or Windows 2000 (I'm a very fickle man,) on the machine. Before I continue my...

...Well in my prevoius review I made mention on my baby's adrupt end well I decided to tell you about her.
I bought the IBM E600 in 2003 and I have to mention I was in desperate need of a laptop as I was just told by my boss that I was going to our branch in Malawi to help them as we were buying a plot and wanted all paper work inorder etc. and also be able to connect to the internet.
When I was handed the E600 to me at first I thought did I get scamed how come the carrycase it was in was so light it was unbelieveable!! And upon opening the carry case I was faced with one of the most beautiful and distinguish looking piece of machinery. It comes in a black colour with a rubbery suede feel to it (if there is such a word) hehe!
The E600 has a
Intel Pentium II 400 MHz
13.3" TFT
Parallel port
2 USB ports
Infrared port
DVD...
