Advantages: Light Weight, Cheap but good, Really good battery life Disadvantages: Strange lid, not easy to open with 1 hand, lack of usb ports
I previously owned the HP NX 9110, 5.4 inch screen and a heavy laptop, and heavy bulky power supply unit. My next laptop as the company has changed there specs again is now a completely different make IBM.
I have found with the IBM Think pad, the shape and style of the laptop has not changed much from many previous years. Forget style on this occasion though.
The laptop is very light weight and has an amazing battery ... ...for battery life, but its coming on quite good now. I am getting at least 2 hours and I am a heavy user, accessing cd-rom drive, writing cdr's, network traffic all the time etc, loading apps.
The laptop has good performance and great battery life, easy to use keyboard, however getting use to it from a normal desktop keyboard or even another branded laptop keyboard I have been pressing a few keys that I did not intend. Most of the time ... more

The laptop is very light weight and has an amazing battery life. Never as good as a slim line dell for battery life, but its coming on quite good now.
Most of the time I am aiming for the Esq key and keep hitting the F1 key cause it's directly below the Esq key. There is a light at the top of the screen lid, and its there to be able to use the keyboard in dark or not so well lit rooms. I have found this just an extra feaure and not useable at all as if the room is slightly dim then the laptop screen lights the keyboard, you know not being so far away and that.
One of the most annoying things I found was the lack of USB ports. 2 ports, on the left hand side, no serial and no PS2. The reason for writing the title, "good for a home user, not business" is because the R52 is dockable. I know that this laptop is not dockable but how are you supposed to plug in a keyboard and mouse if you have an external hard disk and or usb stick. Laptop inventers or manufactuers killed the floppy disk, I have no problem with this (it was old stuff) but now everyone uses usb sticks. So I plug in my usb keyboard (which is more expensive than a ps2 one) and my optical mouse. If I have no cdr's to write too then what do I take out to write to my usb stick.
Another annoying thing is the built in mouse, where is the touch pad. This pencil rubber idea is useable but annoying.
Good features, wired Lan, wireless lan, good battery life, light weight and value for money. Would recommend home user or business person on the move never to dock or try too.

Quick review of ThinkPad R50e
The IBM R50e was given to me by my company for office use and for offsite presentations. i use to have a G40 (which is an old one) the experience i had with this computer is "SUPER" from the design to it's performance. Perhaps the only set back i have with this computer would be it's sound performance. I am used in playing music but i am having a hard time hearing the sound, comparing it to the G40 computer. overall, performance, design, RELIABILITY, and resolution. a super performance for a celeron running laptop. ...

I have had this laptop for around 1 year now, and bought it new form www.ebuyer.com for around £400, but this most likely can be bought for much less today. Overall it is a good laptop that had many pros, but also many cons.
PROS -->
- Being made by IBM this laptop is generally robust and durable, and feels sturdy to touch.
- It comes with the IBM rapid recovery software, this allows you to completely reformat the hard disk, without using a disk.
... ...- The longer this laptop is out, the more it shows its age. Its system specifications are quite low in comparison to laptops you can buy today.
- Overall, from a stylistic point of view, it looks quite ugly and dated.
- Embedded graphics (Intel extreme 2) that performs poorly in games.
In conclusion I believe that if this laptop could be picked up for a cheap price today, it would be a good all round laptop that would perform well at most everday ...

Advantages: Its a ThinkPad! , Great Build Quality, Battery life and value Disadvantages: none as yet
I bought the thinkpad R50e new from ebay, when I was looking for a replacement laptop. Spec - Intel Celeron M 1.4Ghz, 512Mb RAM, 40Gb HDD, DVD-RW/CDRW, WIFI etc.
The first thing I noticed was the build quality, the R50e is a very sturdy machine, compared to laptops I had been looking at the week before in a well known high street computer store. It feels great to use, the hinges are metal giving the impression of durability. Keyboard is very satisfying ... ...no problems what so ever.
The Celeron M processor was clocked at 1.4Ghz, it outperformed my old P4 2.4Ghz laptop in processor benchmarking tests (using SiSoft Sandra), it also is built to be easy on the battery power.
The battery seems to last around 3- 3.5 hours for normal use (web, programming, typing etc), but will run down much faster playing games.
Overall a great machine for the money, Solid Performance, Great Build Quality and battery life. ...

Advantages: Robust design, trackpoint mouse. Disadvantages: Only 2 usb ports
What a top class notebook for the price. Comes ready to use, straight out of the box, mine came with plenty of software to get me started on. The pentium processor and half a gig of ram, complete many tasks with ease. A nice matte 15" tft monitor, seems to resist scratches because of its non-shiny surface. It's trackpoint mouse takes a bit of time to get used too, but once you have cracked it, it is much better than the touchpads on most laptops. ... ...hand still, and just use the tip of your finger to control the ball, and your thumb to click on the right and left mouse buttons, stopping your wrist from aching from sliding your hand across a pad. Fast dvd drive, able to watch films flawlessly. Decent soundcard considering it is in a laptop. Easily upgradeable RAM modules, and hard drive. Average 40gig hard drive supplies most peoples needs, however, it only has 2 usb ports. All in all, a great ...

Advantages: built in wireless, large screen, joystick, ibm features Disadvantages: weird lid, old design, heavyish
I was bought this laptop as a surprise present, and have had no wishes for it to have been anything else! At first I thought the design looked a bit dated, and this has been commented on by other people, it does look a bit like something from the 1990s, but one grows to love it, and looks don't matter that much in a laptop. My favourite feature and most recommended point about this series of laptop is the built in mouse; where most other manufacturers ... ...is similar in size and position to a touch'nipple', but instead of needing to stroking to maneuvre the pointer, one just needs to tilt the pad, which means much more precise movement and less strain on the finger. The position of this joystick relative to the mousebuttons is also very well done, very comfortable to use, although after extended periods of time scrolling around with the mouse (e.g. when playing a game) it can start to become uncomfortable. ...
