I have had my IBM T23 for just over 2 years now.
Since I have owned the system I have only ever had one fault with it, this was partly my fault.
To start with the Design is the typical IBM Black, however the T series much like the X series is finished with a layer of Titanium to give it extra strength. It comes with 2 USB ports, Ethernet, Modem 1 PS/2 Port, S-Video for linking up to projector or TV, 1 Serial, 1 Parallel and 2 PC Card Slots. Opwn the laptop up and you have the usual IBM scroll point, extra volume buttons and an extra Thinkpad button which when you click gives you the option to update the drivers on the PC providing you are connected to the Internet. The only drawbackin the layout is the lack of a windows key (which is usually located next to the ALT & CTRL keys).
IBM Preload the operating system wich means you wont get a Windows CD with the system, instead there is a hidden partition (option) to reload the system back to its original state.
Performance wise this system is good, however the differenceisnt very noticeable when compared to other systems of similar spec, there is no point pretending this system can perform the same way a system of 1.2Ghz spec can do because it cant.
The system can runs applications, email, games well without any problems providing all the games meet the spec of the PC, however one good thing about the system is IBM use Configsafe which is a program which asks to take a snapshot of you system before you install any applications, thus allowing for any fallback should the operating system become corrupt. You can simply go back to before the application was installed.
The support IBM provide is excellent offering you a 3 year warranty on the system & a 1 year warranty on he battery. I have had to use this once as I installed cheap memory from an unbranded manufacturer and this failed and then caused a malfunction on the moherboard. IBM were extremely helpful had had fixed and returned the system within a week free of charge. Which is something you would not find on any laptop from Dixons or Comet etc.
Overall this is a good system with a solid build and feel to it, it can take lenty of bumps and still look prestine thanks to its casing, I find some manufacturers have a plasticy feel to their laptops. However some may find that the IBM Scrollpoint is not for them. It is deffinetly worth the extra cost as it includes a 3 year warranty free of charge. Which when you bare in mind how much you would save on a laptop from Dixons you would then have to buy a extra warranty for it which would cost an extra few hundred pounds.
Advantages: Reliable and solid workhorse that won't let you down Disadvantages: No wirless, needs more USB ports
Not the newest system on the market, but if you can get a decently priced second hand version it is well worth it. I have worked on this for a couple of years now both in an office environment and on the road and it has never let me down. Enough grunt so you do not feel as though you should have gone for the desktop option rather than a laptop. Yet, portable enough to be carried every where and not have to worry about the occasional knock.
The screen ... ...It is also large enough so, if you need to present directly from the screen, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
I personally am not keen on the "nipple" style mouse pointer but then I don't like touchpads either, so I would always recommend carrying a proper mouse.
The lack of enough USB ports, though a disadvantage, can obviously be resolved through a small 4 port USB hub.
The missing wireless really showsd the age of this system, but again ...

Advantages: Enterchangeable CD drive, to Extra HDD, Handy IR Port.. Useful for data transfer. Disadvantages: Both System Board & Disk Drive Failures.
A very capable laptop, which gets used every day. With lots of handy features. Such as the removable CD, Floppy Drive. Great if you purchase the Cradle for an extra HDD. Which makes Backups simple! The extra large LCD display, makes your Home PC almost extinct. Also the battery is easily removable. It has a double USB port on the back along with the Com Ports and Mouse Port. Which I don’t really use because of the touch control in the centre on the ... ...hand for mobile phone data transfer. The laptop arrived in a smart carrying case. With lots of extra cables for Token Ring Connection and other bits & bobs, including the instruction manual.
On the negative, the hard disk died after about 14 Months use, then a week after the system board failed. But on the whole, I would purchase again ...

Advantages: Trackpoint is SOOO much better than mouse/touchscreen Disadvantages: Trackpoint does sometimes drift
I bought mine secondhand from a nice friendly little computer shop, reconditioned. It came with a floppy drive, a cd rom drive and writer, a dvd drive and spare battery. It also came with a free carry case and a port thingy that you can just drop the laptop into; this port thingy holds connections to printer, modem, power etc. Now while this is great, meaning every time you want to move the laptop around, you don't have to mess around with loads ... ...and can lead to the computer having a problem communicating with the printer etc. However, the main thing I love about this little black number is the trackpoint feature. This is a tiny nub which sits just below the g and h keys. Its a little tricky to get used to for a short time, but let me tell you, once you get used to it, you're spoiled for any other control device. Sometimes it does drift but the tutorial is absolutely right when it says the ...

Advantages: A trustworthy Notebook from the creators of the PC Disadvantages: Now a little out of date
There are many notebooks avaliable today, from your £300 own brand notebooks to the £1000 top of the range notebooks.
IBM provides notebooks for all price ranges.
The T series is the ultimate in Travel Notebooks, they combine performance and reliability with travel. These are there Top Models.
All T series' have an outstanding battery life, my T23 started with 4 REAL hours of usability.
Most manufacturers claim 3-4 hours but when IBM says 4 Hours, they actually mean it, bearing in mind that my battery is 2 years old.
The Notebook comes with some really good IBM plus points, like the nipple, and the keyboard light.
Yes this notebook has a nipple, this may sound strange, but it is the best alternative to the mouse, it is more accurate and much easier to use than a glide pad. Its amazing how that small little red dot can ...
Advantages: Very fast and reliable and a very long lasting battery Disadvantages: Changing/upgrading the memory
dual Pentium XEON 1.4 GHz workstation (amazing, isn?t it ?!!). XP is working ?like a charm?, everything opens very quick (1GB of RAM does this) and you really feel that you have something powerful in your hands.
One of the most amazing things about this laptop is the battery. They said in the specs that it lasts 6.2 hours. I normally tend not to believe everything what they say, so I tested. It lasted exactly 6 hours and 23 minutes. I couldn?t believe my eyes, the previous record seen by me was 4 hours and 12 minutes by a IBM ThinkPad, but 6 hours and 23 minutes for a laptop with a 14.1? screen is absolutely impressive. So, for a business man who travels a lot, this is the ideal laptop: not very big, but very powerful and with an incredible battery.
The speakers are built-in at the back of the laptop, close to the screen ...
