(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors, dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
Advantages: Small, light and well spec'd Disadvantages: Replacement parts prices.
I originally bought my Thinkpad as a starter for my partner as she reckoned they are easier to use. My reason was that it was small enough to put out of the way if she never used it.
I bought it off E-Bay and apart from a small amount of worry with the screen getting damaged in transit paid £200 plus postage.
It arrived well packaged and undamaged and to my surprise looking very good for an older model laptop.

The 40gb hard disk is quite ample as it gives you plenty of space to install whatever anti-virus you require and enough space for applications for the average user. At the moment on this one I have a few of my favourite cds, some games, office 2007 and Photoshop 8, yet still have 20gb hard disk space free.

HARD DRIVE
It came pre-installed with Windows XP Pro as it would have when new, and booted up quickly and very quietly. The 40gb hard disk is quite ample as it gives you plenty of space to install whatever anti-virus you require and enough space for applications for the average user. At the moment on this one I have a few of my favourite cds, some games, office 2007 and Photoshop 8, yet still have 20gb hard disk space free.
THE BATTERY
The battery holds a full charge and lasts for about 105 - 120 minutes depending on what you are doing. It probably needs a new one but they are £60 ish and it's just as easy to carry the power cable if we need to transport it anywhere.
INPUT AND OUTPUT
The mouse nipple is a bit awkward till you get used to it but after that it is quite accurate and you can do things quite quickly. The keyboard is full sized, yet those with larger fingers or poor co-ordination may sometimes clip the key next to the one you want at the same time. The speakers are fine for the task and even manage to play music. You must of course not expect the same standard as your home stereo. The screen is nice and clear and just perfect for most things you want it to do.
EXTRAS
It has 2 PCMCIA slots, 2 x USB slots, Built in modem and network card, 1 x infra-red port to name a few. Yes it could probably do with more USB ports, even using the docking station doesn't give you any extra. It comes with a USB dvd-rom\cd re-writer. A USB 3.5 floppy disk drive can be bought for about £10.
COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS
My only complaint is when it has been on for a while the underside gets quite hot and for all it doesn't effect the performance of the unit, it can get quite uncomfortable at times. My concern is a design one, if you have it on your knee, bed or anywhere that isn't a flat surface, then the air entry hole for the cooling fan on the processor can be blocked which isn't good.
RECOMMEND OR NOT
That would depend, it is a great little laptop. It would be suitable to the experienced user and for a beginner for its ease of use and ease of storage. To them I would have no reservations in recommending this laptop. I wouldn't however recommend it for a young child or younger teenager as the screens are very fragile and its usually cheaper and easier to replace the laptop.
Whilst I am going to rate this laptop by todays standards, my overall rating will not be based on comparisons but in the unit itself. The unit did not come with a manual and I have had no reason to contact IBM as it has been faultless since I bought it over 12 months ago.
Advantages: Light, small, capable Disadvantages: Could do with some more usb ports
Don't know if they're still being sold new, but these are nifty second hand bargains. They're black and look pretty good for their age.
They're small, very light, and pretty impressive for a compact laptop. I've had no problems with the one I have- I'm using it right now!
Shame it doesn't have a windows key. 2 usb ports now- well, not amazing, but you can always get a usb hub thing to expand.
Always reliable, no floppy drive but the usb disk drive ...

Rapid Restore / Access Connection / Update Connector. Details are below
Rapid Restore, Great software to backup. It takes the image of the Hard drive and stores it onto a hidden IBM Service Partition on the same hard drive. The Best Part is that if you want to restore it all you have to do is to press the blue IBM Access Button when your server boots up and restore the last backup without even needing to boot into windows. In Reality IT Works like magic the only drawback is it take too much space on the Hard Drive for storing the image.
2. IBM Update Connector. IBM continues to provide the best support solution in the market. ThinkPad comes with a software package called IBM Update connector. You can use it to download latest drivers including bios without the need of searching and finding it on the web. The software automatically ...
