...I think the docking station is a must or at least an external CD/DVD drive.
No video output to connect to your TV if you want to watch DVDs.
The battery seem to have lost some of its capacity (from 47Wh down to 37Wh) since I bought it (9 months ago) .
It looks and feels like IBM has made this laptop to last for years. I accidently dropped it a couple of times and everything was still working perfectly.
You don't need any installation disks, it's all in a reserved partition on the HD. You can also enable the embedded security chip to protect all your information.
The screen is visible even under direct sun light.

Advantages: Light, small, capable Disadvantages: Could do with some more usb ports
...Don't know if they're still being sold new, but these are nifty second hand bargains. They're black and look pretty good for their age.
They're small, very light, and pretty impressive for a compact laptop. I've had no problems with the one I have- I'm using it right now!
Shame it doesn't have a windows key. 2 usb ports now- well, not amazing, but you can always get a usb hub thing to expand.
Always reliable, no floppy drive but the usb disk drive works just fine. Speakers are good too. Good level of picture brightness. If you don't have a mouse, the little knob is very easy to use & manouvre.
Despite lots of use, no real sign of wear or anything. Yes, I'd recommend it. Great for surfing too!...

Advantages: Small, light and well spec'd Disadvantages: Replacement parts prices.

THE BATTERY
The battery holds a full charge and lasts for about 105 - 120 minutes depending on what you are doing. It probably needs a new one but they are £60 ish and it's just as easy to carry the power cable if we need to transport it anywhere.
INPUT AND OUTPUT
The mouse nipple is a bit awkward till you get used to it but after that it is quite accurate and you can do things quite quickly.
The keyboard is full sized, yet those with larger fingers or poor co-ordination may sometimes clip the key next to the one you want at the same time.
The speakers are fine for the task and even manage to play music. You must of course not expect the same standard as your home stereo.
The screen is nice and clear and just perfect for most things you want it to do.
EXTRAS
It has 2 PCMCIA slots, 2 x USB slots, Built in modem and network card, 1x...

This really is what it says it is - Toshiba, the mark of quality and reliability, and Portege, meaning it is portable. The Toshiba Portege is an excellent laptop.

A fully featured VAIO notebook for under £500. This has to be worth looking into. Sony VAIO Notebooks are famous for being industry leaders but also for being overpriced. Now this Laptop has the quality and stylish look as do all VAIO's but not the price more
I for one, absolutely love the look of this acer. The bottom of the laptop just looks really cool, and the top looks ok too. One only criticism on the look, would be that the plastic at the tip of the screen is a little thick, but then again it does have more
I got this laptop as a presant from my dad. It is run on microsoft Vista which in my eyes isn't the best software but it does what it's supposed to do. With wireless i could connect to the bt home hub. Its the best presant i have recived yet!
