There is always a catch. Always.
Don’t get me wrong. This little ThinkPad is a gem of technology. It really is portable but its not one of those ‘laptops’ that force you to use the end of pencil to press the keys. No, the ThinkPad is just the right size.
Speaking of size, I shall say that the memory that comes with it is not too shabby either. It will be filled up, of course, being used up is the fate that all memory is cursed to suffer, however, in value for money terms the specs for the ThinkPad do nicely.
IBM is a large company to. IBM is doing everything it can to claw back to its once mighty position in the computing market and when you contact them you can tell that straight away. They will bend over backwards to help you.
As a general user I have no complaints at all.
As a general user, that is. I work in I.T. and I had a few ThinkPads brought into the office for a number of uses. We have the in-house skill to do more with them than just hand them out to Partners with a long flight and some notes to finish.
A collection of various hardware toys where ordered with the ThinkPads and amongst this lot we picked up a Port Replicator. ThinkPads, like most other laptops these days, do not come with a floppy drive. I use this example to highlight a basic use of a Port Replicator. It was surprised to discover that the ThinkPad struggled to cope with the hardware. It was the typical story; it did not have the right drivers for it. I have been searching through the IBM site (and some others) looking for a download and, oddly, I’ve not managed to find anything yet.
One of the problems connected to getting the latest little toy is that the support for it might not yet be as wide spread as one might like.
