    Advantages Advantages Good summer read

    Disadvantages Disadvantages A tedious heroine

Ginny Holland is the heroine of Jill Mansell’s latest novel ‘Thinking Of You’. Ginny is a single mum whose teenage daughter is leaving her for her fantastic new dream life at university and Ginny is feeling rather left behind. She struggles to come to terms with the fact that her daughter has flown the nest and she is no longer needed. Ginny decides, rather reluctantly, to start afresh and get a new job and a new lovelife. But as is the case in chick-lit, the path to happiness is far from smooth. Her fantastically good-looking new boss thinks she’s a shop-lifter (honestly, she didn’t intend to ... more

Advantages Advantages easy reading, character of Ginny.

Disadvantages Disadvantages the character of Laurel, a bit too predictable.

After having a craving for a bit of girly fiction in my reading list I spotted Jill Mansell's -thinking of you in my local bookshop and was pulled in by the funky cover and the blurb on the back, a bit of light reading just what I was looking for. Ginny's daughter Jem is excited to be leaving her home in Cornwall for the bright lights of Bristol and all the fun of university life, but Ginny isn't sharing in her daughter's excitement. She knows how much she is going to miss Jem when she's gone, and is not sure quiet how she is going to cope without her. Here's where best friend Carla steps in ... more

    Advantages Advantages A great read

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cannot think of any

Jill Mansell is the author of many books, including 'Nadia Knows Best', 'Fast Friends' and this one - 'Thinking of You'. I have been quite disappointed with the last couple of Jill Mansell books as I felt that they were too predictable - girl meets boy and even if she has a boyfriend you somehow knew that girl would end up with the boy that she had just met. This book was different, it was not in any way predictable. Ginny Holland is divorced with an 18-year old daughter, Jem. Jem has just moved from their home town in Cornwall to Bristol to undertake her university degree. Not long after she ... more

    Advantages Advantages Romantic comedy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too predictable and formulaic

This book is a typical romantic comedy following the same pattern as the rest of Mansell's novels. The romantic hero is quickly identified as the baddy-turned-goody and after the first few chapters you can already predict the ending. Even worse, the subplot is equally as predictable and it doesn't really have any variation - the daughter's story running parallel to the mother's. The joy is always in the journey and even though this book didn't have quite so many twists and dramatic turns in the story as some of her other novels, it was really laugh out loud funny in places. The additional ... more

Advantages Advantages Laugh out loud reading

Disadvantages Disadvantages i can't fault it

I really enjoyed this book! I simply couldn't put it down, i managed to read it in two days! It is the type of book that makes you laugh out loud which is unusual for me but at the same time it can be a real tear jerker. Jill Mansel has done it again....This book is witty and a light read it deals with all the issues that most women deal with i.e. Men but she makes light of these that can make you really laugh!!! Ginny the main character in the book is easy to relate to everyone knows someone like Ginny which really draws you into the story. The story is about Ginny being alone now that her ... more
