It is published by Egmont and has a RRP of £3.99, which I think is a fair price for such a sturdy book. Our copy has been well and truly loved, and has even been slept with a number of times. ‘Thomas and the Jet Engine’ tells the story of when Thomas, everyone’s favourite little blue tank engine, wishes that he could go as fast as Gordon, the fastest engine on Sodor, just once. Thomas’ wish comes true one day when the Fat Controller asks him to collect a jet engine from Brendam Docks. The jet engine is attached to Thomas and is accidently switched on by the grumpy Cranky the Crane which leads to very exciting results!

I would say that this book would be suitable for children up until the age of about 4, by which time I imagine they will be more interested in the longer Thomas stories. Although I do enjoy this story I prefer the more traditional Thomas tales, but I do appreciate that a jet engine speeding off is a little more exciting than some of the tales of James learning to be less vain yet again! It is certainly a favourite with my boys and has been for a couple of years now.
