Thorntons Chocolates
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am an unbelievably bad person! I have just been out and brought a bottle of wine and a box of Thornton chocolates for my mum for mothers day but the temptation of the box of chocolates was too much to bare and I decided I would eat them and get her some more when I get the chance! I decided that I would feel less guilty if I wrote a review on them as I ate them (purely for your benefit you see!).
The chocolates:
Double chocolate truffle – this is a slightly knobbly chocolate which tastes of a very rich dark chocolate on the outside and as you bite through to the centre there is a white chocolate truffle. A delicious chocolate with quite an overpowering dark chocolate taste which perhaps surprisingly really enjoyed when I don’t normally like dark chocolate.
Milk manon – A light milk chocolate filled with a slightly caramel flavoured mousse. The outside of the square shaped chocolate is decorated with pretty loops of dark chocolate. This is a nice soft chocolate.
Raspberry burst – the moment you pop this in your mouth you are greeted with an intense sharp burst of raspberry flavour and as you bite into it the fruity raspberry centre can be tasted. The outside shell is made from a strong dark chocolate which really compliments the raspberry flavour however I did find that whilst eating this chocolate I got little raspberry seeds in my teeth which were rather annoying!
Café noir – this chocolate consists of a white chocolate outer shell and contains dark chocolate with a slight coffee taste but not as strong as would have liked as you can barely taste the coffee and there was no nice after taste that I would have expected.
Champagne miroir – this chocolate has a very strong but delicious champagne taste. The centre is very smooth but perhaps a bit too slimy feeling! There is a strong champagne aftertaste which is nice until it fades!
Chocolate ganache – this chocolate is wrapped in a thorntons wrapper and the outer shell is made from crispy dark chocolate. The centre is sweet and soft and tastes like a milk chocolate centre.
Caramel truffle – This chocolate is one of my favourites, the white chocolate shell is sprinkled with flakes of milk chocolate and the shell contains a delicious refined milk chocolatey caramel tasting centre.
Heavenly hazelnut – now hazelnut is not a flavour that I would normally enjoy but this chocolate was gorgeous, the milk chocolate shell has a nutty taste and texture and inside is sweet, smooth praline.
Citris truffle – this heart shaped chocolate was wrapped in an orange foil wrapper, as I unwrapped the wrapped I was greeted with a lovely tangy orange smell. The chocolate is a creamy truffle and contains some crispy wafer pieces.
Vanilla mousse – this white chocolate shell contains a smooth vanilla mousse. This particular chocolate is not to my taste but if you are a fan of vanilla mousse I am sure it would be nice.
Praline croquant shell – This shell shaped chocolate contains a smooth praline of crunchy nuts. The texture is a bit ‘bitty’ but the taste is irresistible.
Caramel delice – this was a strange looking chocolate as it looked like it was upside down but the moment I bit into it I was greeted with a delicious taste which was made up of caramel, almonds and hazelnut. The chocolate was really smooth and left a gorgeous aftertaste. This is definitely one of my favourites.
These chocolates are quite nice but for just over £5 for one layer of chocolates I could not say they are worth it. The box is brown and gold with a small window where you can see some of the chocolates. In total there were 15 chocolates in the box. Although there were some very nice ones they were still not really anything special and I don’t think I would buy them again as they just don’t seem to be worth the money. Looks like I will be replacing my mums mothers day present with some other chocolates!
Thanks for reading.
Em x
