I'll never forget the old advert for Thorntons "Chocolate Heaven since 1911", and it is Chocolate heaven. I have to say all my Favourite Chocolates come from Thorntons they are delicious. Everyone loves Thorntons, well at least everyone I know does. So why have I decided to write about such a well know store. Well I've been shopping there a lot recently and have really enjoyed it. ------------- The stores -------------
The Thorntons stores are quite standard in their layout. You walk through the door and feast your eyes on row upon row of Chocolates. Each area is dedicated to a different range of chocolates. There is also the Ice Cream counter where in summer you can indulge in a delicious Thorntons Ice Cream. Then there is the counter where you pay, it is glass fronted displaying, individual chocolates that you can choose from and make your own selection. I think this is fantastic, I mean how many people buy or get given a box of choccies and actually like everyone in the box.
The stores are Inviting and smell delicious, the chocolates are well displayed, making it easy to see what is available. The staff are friendly and really helpful, shopping here is an enjoyable experience.
This is one of the areas where I believe that Thorntons go that extra mile. They're products are well labelled. I myself cannot eat Gluten, but I can go into Thorntons and buy a bag or box of chocolates and know its ok for me to eat them all. Why? Because their products are well labelled. On the back each of the boxes or bags, is a box showing the suitability, e.g. Gluten Free, vegetarian, nuts even alcohol free; as well as a long with a full list of ingredients. I believe that Thorntons are very responsible in that respect.
If your unsure about an item check with the shop assistant, they are extremely willing to help. If they don't know the answer there is also a file that they have behind the counter that lists all the products they sell, that they consult. I know this because one I tem that I wanted did not have the suitability on the back and within a couple of seconds they had the answer and yes I could have it.
--------- Ranges ---------
A little bit of a taster of whats available from your local Thorntons, Hopefully get your mouth watering a bit. As well are these ranges, there are a wide variety of Easter Eggs available at easter, you can have your own personal message iced onto these eggs free of Charge. There are also other items available throughout the year that you can have your messaged iced onto.

My all time favorites, Thorntons have been making Fudge for more than 50 years and I must say their fudge is the best. The delicious cubes of Fudge come in following flavours.
Form the best has to be the Chocolate Fudge, you can't beat it.
☺Toffee☺
Stanley Thornton's special Toffee first appeared in Thorntons Shops in 1925 and it is still cooked using traditional Copper Pans. You haven't tasted Toffee until you've tasted Thorntons special Toffee. It is delicious and comes in different varieties. Original, Milk Chocolate smoothered, Treacle, Assorted, Liquorice, Brazil Nut, Mint, Pecan & Maple, Fruit & nut, Banana Flavour Special Toffee.
I have an open packet of the Original at the moment but it won't last much longer.
☺Children's Range☺

Summer Fruit Pudding, Toffee Mouse, Crème Brulee, Kirsch Torte, Almond Torte, Double Chocolate Mouse, Lemon Meringue, and Tiramisu.
Unfortunately these are not Gluten free so I have not been able to try them.
☺Mint Selection☺
Made with Dark Chocolate the Mint Selection is one of my favorites, in fact this is the Easter Egg I had this year absolutely delicious, The Mint Crèmes are also available in a small bag and I have been buying these quite regularly now.
------ Price ------
The prices vary quite widely in Thorntons, a small bag of Toffee is usually around 99p and there a few children's items under £1. Where as a 620g Box of Continentals will set you back around £15, a lot more expensive than a box of Milk tray.
--------------- My Opinion ---------------
I love Thorntons, every chocolate you could ever what is available here. The chocolates are delicious and the Store is inviting. Certain items e.g. the Fudge and the Toffee are available in small bags, a great thing to pick up if your want a little treat while your out shopping. The Boxed Chocolates maybe expensive but they make a great gift that most people love, or if you're a bit short of cash why not treat your special someone to a small bag of just their favourites. Go down to Thorntons today and treat yourself or a loved one, just remember to check the prices before you buy as some items are quite expensive.
Note: Even though this is in the Offline shopping section, it giving me options for online shopping.
Advantages: Excellent Range Of Sweets, Clearly Labelled Disadvantages: Quite Expensive
...you have never been to Thorntons or if you don't even know who they are then firstly I will say, Where have you been? and secondly I hope this review this enlighten you.
THE BACKGROUND
It was in the October of 1911 when Joseph Thornton opened a small sweet shop on Norfolk Street in Sheffield with his 14 year old son, Norman. This shop was so successful that two years later they opened a second shop and drawing on the experiences they had acquired ... ...died and the business was handed over to Norman. By 1921 there were now four shops and Joseph now employed his younger brother. In that same year J W Thornton Ltd was founded.
Over the next few years the business expanded steadily and in 1927 the company took on a small factory to produce all of their sweets. By 1939 there were 35 shops scattered across 18 different towns in the North of England.
In 1988 the company was floated on the London Stock ...

Advantages: Yumm!!!!! Disadvantages: I can't leave the shop without buying something!
...pressie. So I went into Thorntons to buy a couple of cheap little sweets.
When you walk past Kirkcaldys Thorntons, (ironically situated right next to a health shop!) you can't help but be enticed by the milk chocolate brown of the shop and the rich aroma that wafts out of it. It's fairly small but there's still plenty room to move and plenty of selection. I don't often go into Thorntons, just for occasions such as Birthdays, Christmas etc. When ... ...of the best things about Thorntons is the free tasters. These are often lumps of toffee which you can go and help yourself to. The unfortunate thing is that the tasters are often so nice I can't help but buy the product!!
You also can get any item iced with your chosen message for free, even though it can be a bit embarrassing getting "snugglepooh I love you" written on a slab of chocolate!!!
I seem to get my grandparents toffee there every Christmas ...

Advantages: Great range of choccies, very tasty Disadvantages: A bit too expensive
...and are supposed to be Thorntons most popular range. And they are expensive. I only bought five choccies and they cost £1.33! That's over 25p a chocolate, and they only weigh a few grams each! Wow!. Still, I must admit having just scoffed a few of them they were extremely tasty.
But these weren’t the most indulgent choccies I bought. I was feeling a bit extravagant so bought a few choccies from the even more indulgent , and expensive Premier selection ... ...Basically these are medallions of Thorntons Special Toffee covered in milk chocolate. Yes, not just any old toffee, but “Special” toffee. I’m not sure what’s supposed to be so special about it as they don’t sell any unspecial toffee to compare it too, but I can tell you it is rather tasty, and this version, covered in chocolate, comes top of the toffee stakes in my book. Sometimes toffee can be a bit chewy, and if your teeth are as delicate as mine ...

Advantages: Great products, stylish decoration, clean store. Disadvantages: Rude and miserable looking staff.

Advantages: Big variety Disadvantages: Can be understaffed
I went to Thornton's today and it was rather a mixed bag - although mainly good. I've also visited a lot of shops round the Manchester and Leicester area (well you can't exactly walk by one without going in can you?). So my review is mainly focused on my experience today and how it compares to other shops.
The one I visited today was only a small store, but the shop layout was good. The shelves were well stocked and there was a large variety of ... ...OK, not as cheap as the supermarkets but you're getting a different level of choclate heaven here! Being Christmas time, there were lots of gift ideas and they do a box of chocolates for only £2.99 which looks a lot more expensive than it is. I also noticed lots of gifts aimed at children such as chocolate reindeer, so if you're struggling what to get someone for Christmas then you wouldn't be short on ideas there! Signage and advertising was spot-on. ...

Advantages: delicious, wide choice, friendly staff Disadvantages: pricey, hard to move
If I could spend all of my life eating chocolate, then I would! If somebody could make a healthy chocolate, I'd be very happy! If chocolate was free, then wayhay! Unfortunately, none of these apply. So I enjoy chocolate now and again as a treat. When I do eat it I like to go for something abit special, which is why I like to go to Thorntons!
There are two main Thorntonsshops in Aberdeen, both in the centre of town. I do not tend to go to the one in the Bon Accord Centre, so i shall talk about the one on Union Street. It is wedged between a phone shop and a Zavvi store, an d is not hard to find. It also has little competition around about, whereas the other one has bakers and ice cream stalls nearby. You just need to look for the large brown Thornton sign and you know you have arrived at the right place.
The doors to the shop are quite ...

Warning this review might make you hungry.
Chocolate. It is one of life's little luxuries and a necessity to treat yourself if life is going well or as a comfort if everything is going wrong. I do not know about you but I am a bit of a chocolate snob. Cadburys is OK for an everyday chocolate fix but I do like something better, something richer and more flavorful. Beforehand I would rely on Thorntons but I have found a shop called Hotel Chocolat who really know their chocolate.
Hotel Chocolat are the driving force behind the highly successful Chocolate Tasting Club, the service where you get a box of delicacies and sometimes unusual chocolate. They have had a mail order business for a while now but in 2004 they set out to fond a chain of retail outlets. They presently have 22 outlets mostly in the Midland and south of England ...
