Another Oddity
Review of Forever Odd - Dean Koontz by markd_uk

Advantages: A great read, gripping, page-turner
Disadvantages: Not as strong as some of Koontz's other novels

"Forever Odd" is the second in what has become a trilogy of novels about Odd Thomas, a 21-year-old man with supernatural talents and an ability to get himself caught up in just about every serious crime that happens in his home town of Pico Mundo. Odd's name could be a nickname given to him by his friends and colleagues because of his unusual abilities; more likely, it's because his dysfunctional parents got it wrong when they registered his birth ...
...Either way, Odd Thomas was born with the ability to see the dead, and - using them - Odd helps Pico Mundo's Chief of Police, Wyatt Porter, to solve the town's crimes. He can also see other creatures, bodachs, that tend to act as portents of impending disaster and has the ability to use Psychic Magnetism to seek out people he's looking for; helpful when the police can't find the bad guy. On top of all this, he was also born with an acerbic wit and ... Read review

Demonata - Lord Loss - Darren shan
Review of Demonata: Lord Loss - Darren Shan by salmonf1

Advantages: the beginning of a fantastic series
Disadvantages: very short,

After reading all of the Darren shan vampire saga i was expecting another thrilling read. This i was granted, however Lord Loss is similar to the first of the vampire series. It starts a magnificent line of stories, (the demonata) which i would recommend to anyone. The series is full of magic and a great plot, the first person way of writing really makes it exciting, the sort of read that you'll want to finish in the first sitting, in the case of ...
...a long book, nor is it hard to read. you can finish in a good few hours. Not a vast amount actually occurs in this book, but enough to keep you hooked and looking forwards to the next installments. It does however introduce characters with huge amounts of depth and history. The great thing about it is that it is completely different to the vampire stories but still has that Darren shan edge that all his fans adore. My overall verdict is that the ... Read review

Skipping Christmas
Review of Skipping Christmas - John Grisham by CPTDANIELS

Advantages: Witty and enjoyable
Disadvantages: Quite short and not expanded enough

...simply told them they were skipping Christmas this year. Meanwhile in their small middle class street preparations for the festive season where in full swing. A highly organised and proud neighbourhood where putting all their lights, frosties and decorations out for the world to see. As the road seeks to win the award for the best festive decorations in the area. Only one house has none and one house has let the neighbourhood down. My thoughts ...
...this author that I have reviewed. And as such I really wasn't sure what to expect this time round. I liked the concept of a couple trying to do something different in missing Christmas and that was why I bought it. Initially I struggled to get into the book and I thought I would rather hear about their daughter's trip to Peru than a 'stuffy couple' attempt to avoid Christmas. But in truth it grew on me and despite my prejudices against the author ... Read review
