Not his best... but still worth the effort
Review of The House of Thunder - Dean Koontz by
Victoria_R
Advantages: You can't see where the next blow is coming from
Disadvantages: Possibly the ending. Sorry, did I mention that already..??
...to Ciao for giving me the encouragment to read a lot of my old Dean Koontz books again so that I can review them. I'd forgotten just how good most of them are.
The House of Thunder is a strange book. At the beginning the suspense nearly kills you, then the end is just a little too neat for my liking. A minor criticism, I know, but it seems a shame to waste all the hard work that has been put into the rest of the book with a really tidy ending. Don't ... ...my ramblings - on to the plot!
Susan Thornton's (Jewish) boyfriend is killed in a college hazing, in a cave known as the "house of thunder", by four bigoted thugs. Four years later, all those who participated in the murder are also dead in violent circumstances. Susan rebuilds her life and becomes successful. TWELVE years later, she wakes up in hospital suffering from amnesia after apparently being involved in a serious road accident. OK so far. ...

Terrible, Terrible stuff
Review of The Voice of the Night - Dean Koontz by
grohloholic
Advantages: Some people prefer Koontz stories with no supernatural aspects..this is one of them.
Disadvantages: Terrible story, no suspense..too many.
...I've read are brilliant, at the very least good. This however, is just awful. The description on the back of the book implied that the book was about, as the title would suggest, the voices of the night. I therefore imagined a supernatural thriller and it did sound interesting. However, the "voice of the night" is mentioned just twice in this book, very briefly. It is not a big part of the story and in fact, there is nothing supernatural in the book. ... ...happens to be one of the worst books I've ever read. The fact that it is easy to read is another advantage..but that is just not good enough for me.
The main 2 characters are 14 year old Colin and Roy. Colin is new in town and has never had friends until Roy. He is therefore willing to do anything to keep Roy's companionship. However, Roy has a secret and is constantly trying to let Colin in on it.. the secret being that he likes to kill things. ...

Revenge of good against evil
Review of Twilight Eyes - Dean Koontz by
carolinemu
Advantages: Unusual setting, gripping
Disadvantages: slow at times, far fetched with an unbelievable plot
...say.
It can also be slow at times.
I would recommend this book for Adults only because there is a lot of gorey descriptions to deaths and dead bodies.
Twilight eyes is a ridiculous story with implausible characters, impossible situations and an unbelievable plot.
Thanks for reading ...

Love Conquers all- blah blah
Review of The Husband - Dean Koontz by
Taika
Advantages: Great plot twists.
Disadvantages: Weak characters.
...has been kidnapped, but that the people he is dealing with are very serious, proven as they murder a seemingly 'innocent' dogwalker just to empasize the fact that they're really not joking.. Mitch- a character Koontz attempts to have us warm to from the start, he's the lead, why wouldn't we want to warm to him?
Well, my main problem with this is that he's an incredibly two dimensional man. He's the typical stereotype of what is supposed to be passed ... ...better by the fact it's his hobby, he's blissfully happy in his marriage, he's fit, toned, goodlooking. I already don't like him. Yeah, so he's only a gardener, but who cares if he has everything else?
It's almost like you feel he deserves what he gets.
Despite my reservations regarding the main character, I am an avid Koontz fan, I read him for the first time at age 9, whilst snooping through my mother's books. I have since, read almost every ...
