"Live Fire", a good entertainer
Advantages: Thrill and entertaining story line, not boring Disadvantages: Nothing that is loud
...and now in 2009 19) Live Fire Out of this eighteen books mentioned here there quite a few unpublished works. But I have been introduced to Stephen Leather through Hungry Ghost and Bombmaker (mainly dealing with the IRA) which I thought till “Live Fire” was exceedingly engrossing and exiting. If I were to compare “Hungry Ghost”, “Bombmaker” and “Live Fire” my vote will definitely go in favor of “Live Fire”. It is a very fast paced, engrossing and ... ...been absolutely brilliant and nail-biting. THE STORY: The main story is set in Thailand. This small Asian country has gained international notoriety for it “sex” and “bar” crimes. It is one of the five Dan Spider series. Dan Spider Shepherd is a former SAS solder. He is an undercover agent with the Serious Organized Crime Agency. The Moore brothers of UK lead a ruthless gang of professionals of ex-army Iraq veterans. The ruthless bunch of killers ...

Crime, cops and corruption
Advantages: A very easy to read undercover cop book Disadvantages: It's hard to put down!
It was in a service station where a Stephen Leather book caught my eye for the first time. I picked it up, read the back and thought how good it sounded. I had no intention of buying it and thought next time I was in the library I'd look for it. That was if I could remember! I did though, although I forgot the title. My library only had one on the shelf, 'Soft Target' so I thought that I'd give it a go. Looking at the cover (a gun being pointed by ... ...I didn't let this put me off though. I'm glad, as it has been one of the best books I've read recently. It won't be winning any awards but it had me gripped from the first few pages and was incredibly easy to read. The book is described as a tense action thriller on the back. So I had images of him being similar to someone like Ludlum. I'd never read him before but I'd seen film adaptations so I thought it would be interesting to see if I'd enjoy ...

Gripping!!
Advantages: An excellant read. Disadvantages: N/A
...another novelist that would fulfil the high expectations that I now look for in a book. I was not dissappointed by "The Bombmaker", by Stephen Leather. This novel is about a ordinary Irish family whose lives are torn apart when their little girl is kidnapped. But the kidnappers do not want money..they want the girl's mother to co-operate with them. But to save her daughter's life, she would have to sacrifice thousands of other peoples.
I strongly ...

My favourite thriller!
Advantages: Suspension, twists and energetic throughout! Disadvantages: Only problem was that there were too many characters.
...of a book, written by the accomplished author: Stephen Leather.
This was my first thriller book, and definitely not a let down! A tense book where a Viet-Cong veteran has his wife and daughters killed in an IRA bombing, looks to seek vengeance on the culprits. Despite his constant pleas to the authorities, no action was taken..so the chinaman, took the actions into his own hands. Using his skills to create bombs from the Viet-Cong war, he uses bombs ... ...I could not remember who the different characters were.
Though I am not saying this book was too complex, as I read this when I was 13 years old and had little problem understanding the majority of this book. Also, I think that Stephen Leather needs to broaden his range of book, as he is always writing about the IRA or Vietnam.
I would recommend this book to ANYONE who enjoys a good thriller, as this compelling storyline really will keep you reading ...

The best thriller writer of our time
Advantages: Captures the heart and soul of both the good and bad guy Disadvantages: You dont get anything else done because you can't put it down!
This was the first leather book I had read and was totally hooked. If you have read and enjoyed any Chris Ryan and/or Andy McNab then this author is certainly one to have a punt on. The thing I liked about this stylisation was how you have one man, living two seperate lives. On the out he is an ex-SAS trooper turned undercover cop. But he is just no ordinary undercover cop, we are talking proper deep cover ops. Infiltrate hardened gangs, gain trust ... ...into a false sense of security and build the evidence to put them away.
Great, you are thinking, so where is the originality. As with any great author, it is about bringing the character alive, making you believe, understand, care for that person or persons. Leather is certainly a master at this and you just cant help but declare yourself void of anything but the story. The way this character is torn between the two worlds and his attempt to balance ...
