Good Adaptation, But Badly Cast.
Review of Rebus - Series 1 DVD by the_mad_cabbie

Advantages: Excellent detective yarns. Beautiful scenery.
Disadvantages: Suffers from mis-casting

...his brilliant collection of Inspector Rebus novels about the paranoid, screwed up, hard drinking Scottish police inspector. ~ ~ Rankin is one of the UK’s top crime writers. Originally from Fife in Scotland, he is now based in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, where his fictional detective, John Rebus, has his beat. He has won a number of “Golden Dagger” awards for his Rebus novels, and when a new book is published, it invariably shoots to the top ...
...before someone decided to transfer Rebus to the silver screen. Or in this case the TV screen, as Scottish Television originally released the three novels featured on this DVD as a series of stand-alone episodes in conjunction with a production company called Clerkenwell Productions. Quite how I managed to miss the original screening of Rebus on TV is a bit of a mystery, but at least I was able to get my hands on this DVD after reading about its ... Read review

Edge of your seat stuff
Review of Vacancy DVD by AdamG1983

Advantages: Luke Wilson playing a serious role....
Disadvantages: The Policeman investigating a murder on his own

I quite enjoyed the film. I didn't find it scarey, although it was edge of the seat stuff. It was good to see Luke Wilson play a serious role for a change, as I have only ever seen him in comedies (Anchorman, Old School). It made a change to have something different in a film, with the main theme based arounf 'snuff' movies. If you are not familiar with 'snuff' movies, and it is alleged to actually be true, snuff movies are films of people being ...
...I suppose!! The main part of the film takes part at a run down motel in the middle of the American countryside. The main characters played by Wilson and the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale are offered a room at this motel after their car breaks down. Whilst in the room, Wilson tampers with the video, and this is when they realise that the room they were in were actually the ones shown on the videos Wilson was playing, and that these were used for the Snuff ...
