discover all the charges against Marco have been dropped.
Upon his release the three men bump into Marco's father in law De Cal, an owner of the local glass making plant. He is furious with Marco and threatens to hurt him. After some informal enquiries Brunetti is satisfied that 'the old man' is just shouting his mouth off and means him no actual harm.
Then Giorgio Tassini, the Night Watchman at the Glass Plant is found dead. Upon investigation he has also been talking bitterly about the Plant to everyone. Brunetti discovers he has a dossier about the Plant, claiming the owner to be responsible for his two year old daughter's bad health.
The Commissario must find out if it is Tassini's own guilt that makes him believe this or if there really is a case to answer by De Cal and the other next door plant owner Fasano.

this up without a word of anger, it becomes apparant just how ill Cecilia is, although it's not clear if she herself knows this .
After the festivities of the day are over, Cecilia wakes up from her sleep, and hears a voice asking her if she slept well . It's a mysterious being, Ariel, whom Cecilia decides is a boy, and who reveals himself to be an angel .
What follows is a book that explores the differences between heaven and earth, the similarities between children and angels, and the importance of adults keeping their inner child alive . Cecilia and the Angel have nightly talks, with him explaining various important points about heaven, and her attempting to explain to him all the experiences he's never had - cold, taste, touch.
At the same time, the story progresses through Ceclias daytime actvities and thoughts - her anger at being ...
Advantages: Not a trace of banality there Disadvantages: Misogyny
The first thing to mention is a little known fact. This film is part of a trilogy: it is followed by 'Winter Lights' and 'The Silence'. So if one really wants to come to terms with what Bergman has to say about religion and God then all three should be watched.
In spite of this 'Through a GlassDarkly' can very easily stand alone as a cinematic masterpiece. Nykvist's cinematography is something purely beautiful and each individual actor, without exception, produces a wonderful performance.
Dealing with God, Sanity, Love, Sexuality, Artistic production, philosophy and more the film itself is bursting with meaning and the intellectual achievement on Bergman's part should not be underplayed. Although there are rather assertive overtone's of Freudian misogyny in the use of female hysteria yet one cannot necessarily mark this negatively ...

A nice gripping and readable novel ; A terrific tale of survival ; Very atmospheric ; The characters thoughts and feelings are projected well to the reader
Suddenly stops flowing towards the middle ; King can be slightly over obsequious towards the main character (*)
Stephen King's claim to fame ; Superb atmosphere ; Sublime plot ; A vivid imagination that stretches all supernatural boundaries ; Probably responsible for some of the best horror films of the 70's and 80's
Some unessesary background in the first half ; Kubrik mucked up the story too much ; Could have been much more (*)
