Tia Maria is the UK's leading coffee liqueur and the world's number two coffee liqueur (what on earth could be number one??? fix!!!!) Manufactured by Allied Domecq who also make Ballantine's, Courvoisier and Malibu to name a few. Tia maria was awarded the gold medal in the Liqueurs category of the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2000 and 1999.
During the 1980's, Iman advertised the drink giving it a more exotic and classy image. The drink derives from an old Jamaican recipie which remains a closely guarded secretand
Tia Maria is dark in colour - hence the adverts calling it the 'The Dark Spirit'. The taste is a blend of "cane spirit, Jamaican coffee, vanilla and sugar" I can also detect a caramel taste as well. It has a sweet taste that may not suit all palettes, there is of course, the overlying taste of coffee. There is a general aroma of coffee and caramel mmm lovely...
The following information has came from www.allieddomecq.com
Tia Maria is produced by Estate Industries Ltd in Kingston, Jamaica, from coffee beans harvested from the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The Coffee Beans are cracked in the roaster and the extract transfered to vats. Water, vanillin and citric acid are then added to the containers followed by 96% proof alcohol. This produces the concentrate. There are a series of filtrations before the concentrate is added to a vat of liquid sugar. This produces what is known as the Tia Maria Concentrate at 32.4% ABV which is then shipped worldwide for secondary processing and bottling. Somewhere along the process, the mixture gets less concentrated and when the liqueur finally retails in bottled form, the ABV is 26.5%.
The packaging of the bottle is predominantly black, red and gold. The bottle is black, with a red screw top and a red and gold label. The brand name: Tia Maria is written in classy gold lettering. The bottle is attractively shaped, similar to a wine bottle.
Tia Maria can be served neat on the rock or with lashings of coke. I find it is best served when you put a double measure with ice and a large amount of coke - but then I do have a drinking problem ;-) I've also tried it as hot drink by adding liberal (of course) amounts to a steaming hot cup of coffee. (Ok, I will get professional help!) A Black Russian is also a popular way of serving the drinking: Tia Maria, Vodka and Coke, although I personally think the vodka spoils the drink. The consistency of the drink is quite thick.
You can purchase this at most supermarkets such as Asda, Safeway , off licences and some online stores such as Oddbins. It is sometimes available at Bargain Booze for £10.99
** I love this drink for several reasons. Firstly, this is the only alcoholic beverage which I drink because I seem to get really ill of all others. I get drunk after two halves of lager, Wine gives me heartburn and I can't stand Vodka, Whisky etc. Before I found Tia Maria - yes this is a spiritual experience ;-) - I thought about becoming teetotal because I was fed up getting ill.
** I actually like the taste of this drink, so many people who drink don't like the taste of what they are drinking: well this drink has a lovely taste. The taste of the drink is not harsh in any way, very smooth. Some people have said that they find it quite sickly, but I've only found it sickly when I've drank too much. The taste of coffee is noticeable, but not over powering. You can also taste the other flavours, vanilla and caramel, but again they are not overpowering.
** Even though Tia Maria has quite a high alcohol content - 26.5 vol - I don't find that I get drunk easily on it. I find that you have to drink a fair bit to get plastered. This might not suit many people, but I prefer to behave like a mad person through choice, rather than through being drunk lol.
** Lastly, I would point out that this drink is the only one that has not left me with a awful hangover in the morning. After nights out on lager, wine etc I would spend the whole day in bed: I've not had one hangover with Tia Maria in all the years that I've been drinking it. High praise indeed I feel!
Cons
** Can be sickly after drinking large amounts. Some people say that it is sickly after one or two shots.
** Expensive. This is a big downside. However, as you normally add coke to the drink, it will last longer than you think. I would guess, that one 750 ml bottle would give you about 30 single measures.: sorry i can't give a better estimate. I've rated the bottle good value for money as it does last quite a while.
I would certainly recommend this drink as it has a lovely smooth taste. It is not a harsh alcoholic drink like some. The only negative that I can find is that if you drink too much it has a very sickly taste. I suppose the answer to that one is obvious - don't drink too much! I've never had a hangover after drinking this, even when I have consumed copious amounts! For me, that is a major plus! Although this is expensive, it is value for money as it lasts quite a while. The bottle will normally last me two weekends.
Well I've enjoyed the research for this product…hic, I'm off to sample some more :0)
Oh yes, I tried to find out what is the World's No 1 coffee liquor, but no luck...apologies

The most famous and, for me, the nicest of the coffee liqueurs, Tia Maria is a rich, dark brown, syrupy, aromatic delight best drunk alone, or on ice. Pour it slowly from the dark brown, square bottle, roll it around the glass and take a deep breath of freshly filtered coffee. Sip it and taste the thickened, velvet coffee with its fiery alcoholic kick and wait for the syrupy, vanilla sweetness to ...

...that got to do with Tia Maria? Er, nowt really, apart from Tia Maria being a coffee based liqueur that I mightn't have tried did I not have a liking for coffee in the first place
Tia Maria has a long history, even longer than my coffee addiction. It's been around many years, to be more precise, around 300 years. Well not the drink itself, but the recipe from which it's made anyway.

Tia Maria has remained made from the original recipe to this day, but as with many things, commercial production didn't start until the 1940's. Dr Kenneth Leigh Evans was offered some with a meal at a friends home, and persuaded them of it's viability as a commercial venture.

What is Tia Maria
Tia Maria is a liqueur spirit with the distinct taste of coffee. It is produced by Pernod Ricard and is made in Jamaica using Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee beans. The main ingredients are coffee beans, cane spirit, vanilla and sugar.

...alone!
This is where Tia Maria comes in for me. Now I’ve grown up, (or so it’s sometimes rumoured), I want alcohol. But the ten year old in me still wants sweet drinks. This gorgeous drink fits the bill perfectly, (as do many liqueurs). This one is special though, in that I never tire of it. It’s like drinking warm, fiery, sweet black coffee, even when it’s ice-cold. There is no ‘bite’ you see. Only a smooth, mellow heat drifting across your mouth ... ...gold at the bottom with Tia Maria in gold lettering over the top of it all. The biggest give-away to the identity of this drink for me, is in fact the gold lettered Tia Maria on the label. I never fail to spot it without thinking, ‘That’s Tia Maria’! A 70cl bottle costs £14.99 at our local Co-op, but bargains may sometimes, though rarely, be had on special offers. It is also available in half bottles, usually about £7.99 and miniatures containing ...

between 22-28%, so you definately do get quality when it comes to the good old Smirnoff.
Smirnoff Vodka is excellent in the way that it is so versatile, you can mix it with pretty much anything:
Orange, coke, redbull, lemon fanta, orange fanta, lemonade, tropical juice, pineapple juice, tiamaria and coke.. the list does on. My favourite is probably tiamaria, vodka and coke. Black Russian. Lovely!!
You can really use your imagination with Smirnoff Vodka and mix it with anything AND I do suggest you do mix it. Definately would not recommend drinking it straight (as a shot or sipping is hard to do).
There are also different varieties of Smirnoff Vodkas available, such as:
Nordic Berries, Lime, Blue, (extra strong at 45%!!!!!!!) and Black. Of course other rivalries, such as Absolut are probably the leading vodka brand for flavoured vodkas ...

I think I prefer coca cola but I did not dislike this at all and I would happily buy this again especially as it is much cheeper, so it will save me quite a bit of money.
This also goes very well with tiamaria or vodka, both very nice;)
Pepsi contains a lot of sugar and will set you back 42 calories per 100ml, so not something you could drink a lot of each day.
This drink is also best served chilled as it tastes horrid as with all soft drinks when warm. I would also say to drink it within a week as it goes flat fairly quick, which again tastes horrid!!
But in all I am pleased with my purchase and will buy again.
Thanks for reading. ...

Advantages: Nice and tasty Disadvantages: Too fizzy straight from the can
moorish. It will quench your thirst as soon as you drink it but this doesn?t seem to last long and you?ll soon be wanting more.
I find this drink very fizzy and cannot drink it straight away when it is opened, the bubbles make you feel bloated and sometimes get up your nose if you drink it too quickly. I prefer to leave it a few minutes after opening then the bubbles aren?t as fierce. This way you get the full flavour of the drink, without the harshness of the fizz.
Coca-cola is sold in most café?s and pubs but can be over priced in these places.
Coca-cola is an excellent mixer for drinks like Brandy, Whisky, TiaMaria and Vodka. At parties it will always go down well with the children as it outshines the other brands of fizzy drinks. Although it is a bit expensive to buy in a bottle, around 1.20
I do think that it?s worth paying that ...
