My first experience with Tiger Beer was surprisingly in Sierra Leone (West Africa). The reason why I ended up drinking Tiger beer there was because we had exported a 20ft. container load directly from Singapore to Sierra Leone of ABC Stout, which is also manufactured by Asia Pacific Breweries. In that container we had included 10 trays x 24 cans of Tiger Beer just for trial purposes.
So that was my first experience with Tiger beer and this was way back in 1992-93. I must say at that time I was quite excited in trying it out since I had heard so much about it. After all it is a very famous beer.
It is a dry-hopped beer and has a rich taste. It is a great beer if you want a long drinking session. My initial reaction was that it tasted quite strong. However after a several large sips your taste buds gradually get used to the invasion of hops and the strong taste is replaced with a rich one with a lingering bitter finish. It is an extremely refreshing beer and I find that it goes very well with food, especially with peppery and spicy dishes.
Tiger is a Pilsner lager beer and the alcohol content is a moderate 5%. It tastes stronger than this though. It is quite pale in colour compared to other lager beers. It is available mostly in 33cl. bottles, although I understand that it is also available in 500ml bottles too. The label is predominantly red in colour with the unmistakable picture of the “Tiger” in a striking yellow colour, on the top part of the label.
Tiger beer is easily available in the U.K.. Personally I have never purchased some myself but have always had this beer at an Indonesian restaurant in London’s West End, which I frequently visit. After a bit of checking around I have found out that you could purchase the 33cl. bottles on the Internet from anywhere between £1.50 to £2.10 a bottle.
Sure it’s pretty expensive but what would you expect from a beer that is acclaimed as the best beer in the world, for two years in a row.
They also have a wonderful, savvy and ultra modern website at: www.tigerbeer.com. Flash player is required and it is really quite different from other beer manufacturers websites. A lot of creativity has gone into the site with the younger age group predominantly in mind.
Back to my Richter Scale. I’ll give this one 9/10. Obviously I am quite impressed with it and I’m sure you will be too.
Advantages: Not bad, not bad at all Disadvantages: Probably not the best beer in the world
Asia's number one beer, Tiger Beer is brewed by Asia Pacific Breweries in Singapore, which comes under the umbrella of Heineken. APB has breweries not only in its home country of Singapore but also in China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. It is also popular in many ethnic restaurants, particularly those specialising in Malaysian/Singaporean and Indonesian cuisine. SO... did I journey to the exotic Far East to sample this beer authentically? Perhaps I treated myself to an evening of sampling the culinary delights of the Orient, before washing it all down with copious amounts of felinious, malt-based beverage? OR....did I wait until the mercury crept above ground ...

Advantages: Good Quality. Pleasant Flavour Disadvantages: Not so widely available in UK
The Tiger is greatly respected and even revered in Asia. In the Chinese Zodiac the Tiger is regarded as one of the best birth signs. ...on Ciao, I don't find Tiger particularly costly.
With that little rant out of the way I'll get onto the actual review of the beer, like other have said (surely this wont be the first review of Tiger you've read), it comes in a simple brown bottle, with a sticker on the front and neck and the word "Tiger" engraves on the it twice. Simple and like most others so it's not as good as say Heineken or Kronenbourg (http://www.ciao.co.uk/Kronenbourg_1664_Lager__Review_5630671) ... ...the packaging, a very appealing tiger inprinted on the cap. If you manage not to spill any when opening it (my bottle opener sucks), you get a pretty strong (for a beer) aroma from the bottle. The beer has a some what thick texture (either that or my fridge is far to cold) with a soft after taste, quite a pleasant drink. An advantage of this beer (and the reason it's advised to have with curry's in ther reviews) is the lack of fizz, as well as Cobra ...

...will describe the pros of Tiger beer in all it's glory.
Born in Asia in 1932 and brewed and bottled by Hainan Asia Pacific Brewery Co., with some of the finest quality hops and malted barley and no artificial additives, Tiger beer has spread over the world to become one of the world's favourite, and most successful beers across the land.
The malt barley hails from Europe and Australia, and the hops are specially produced in Germany. The yeast is ... ...Brewing Industry International Award, where Tiger was judged the 'Worlds Best Lager Beer', rather than being titled 'probably' the best, as Carlsberg likes to use as it's title...
Of course, with all these successes, Tiger is widely available, especially in restaurants. Supermarkets, from what I have seen however, tend to just sell it in large 640ml glass bottles, whereas restaurants will obviously sell it in smaller, 300ml (approx.) bottles.
But ...

CHAPTER TWO. BENGAL
So, here we have a bottle of Bengal Indian Lager. Bengal - this must be the home of the English Raj, the Bengal Lancers, The Bengal Tiger ?
I had a look in my atlas to remind myself just where Bengal is. Well, Bengal was partitioned during the 1940s at the time of the creation of the Indian and Pakistani nations. East Bengal was incorporated into East Pakistan which subsequently became Bangladesh. West Bengal is one of the north eastern states of India which borders Bangladesh.
I then had a sneaky glance at the bottle label (just as well before I went to get my ticket ? see below). This beer isn?t from ...
A fantasic tasting beer, although claimed to be similar to other brands such as Tigerbeer and other Indian based beers, It does have a different edge to the taste.
Many people have review this beer, so perhaps you would be more interested in some lesser known facts once learnt from the local Indian restaurant - where I had the choice of Cobra, Cobra, or Cobra because they loved it so much!!
Cobra beer was actually created in Fulham, Uk, not a lot of people know that - he was an Cambridge graduate! Although Indian, he had a strong British upbringing, and trying to get the world to believ in his beer was a task that he obviously eventually achieved, delivering from the back of his Citroen 2CV of all cars!
Cobra's turnover is over 12.5 million pounds, and is hoped to float on the alternative stock market! ...

increases the contstriction of the blood vessels in the brain and thus increases the chance of a banging headache in the morning.
If you like drinking your lagers in moderation then I would suggest Heineken Ex is definitely a drink for you. However, if you are planning a night out and are drinking in quantity rather than quality then I would suggest going more for Carlsberg or a lighter beer.
Heineken has a great list of other products such as Tigerbeer, which inexplicably claims to be a Chinese beer with supposedly a fascinating brewery in Holland. I would recommend going there but as a student when in Holland I'm sure the 'Dam has more to offer than fermenting yeast every will.
To summarise beer = good. Heineken is alright on the taste buds, and even its slight kick won't throw you off your food but is not the best lager to drink ...
